Subject: How do you tell a Sport Fury from a Fury?

What is the best way to tell if a 59 Fury is a regular Fury, or a Sport Fury? Does it appear in the VIN number, or on the firewall tag? I don't have any books or information to reference. If anyone can help, or point me to a website, it would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I believe that there is a unique VIN for a Sport Fury, but the most direct way to tell them from the standard Fury is by the trim on the car. All Sport Fury's have the "toilet seat" trunk lid, a large, round medallion just above the upper trim piece at the rear end of each fin, standard swivel seats with unique upholstery, and a plaque on the glove box door that says "this car was built especially for (first owner's name)" even though some of these plaques were never engraved with a name or didn't get installed at all. All Sport Fury's had either the 318, 4 bbl carb or the 361, 4 bbl carb (Golden Commando) engine. I'm sure there are other distinct Sport Fury features, but these are the main ones that I notice. Also, Sport Fury's came in only 2-door hardtop and convertible body styles.

Location: The Netherlands		If the VIN starts with M293 it is a Sport Fury. All of Carjock's words are true but I have seen other 59 Plymouth's with Sport Fury trim and "toilet seats". If you want to know more about the 59 Plymouth you can go to http://www.59sportfury.net.

Location: Upper Darby, PA		Then there's the distinction from 20 feet: The side trim widens from front to rear on a SF -- and rear to front on a Fury.

Remember when driving a finned car was akin to having the plague ?

I get the feeling a lot of these young whippersnappers digging our old favorites have no clue what a social faux pas it was to stick to your guns and not crush that old "winged thing".

I had more than my fair share of noses turned up at me in the dating scene because of that "ugly" car I drove (with pride, I might add!). These days, most of the world has come to see these "ditch pluggers" as I always have. Far more car than you could have bought at any time since the war .... that means World War Two for you "age impaired" kids with a full head of hair and no wrinkles, ... no grey!

I remember those days all too well. The only thing worse than driving a finned car was to drive an Edsel or , God forbid, something like a Morris Minor or a Renault Dauphine (now there's some names that the young'ns probably won't recognize!). My dream was always a '59 Custom Royal with the nose lowered down and dual antennas--boy did I catch flak from the F--D and C---vy guys. But it was worth and it still is!!
