I'm not a cheevy expert but those don't look like standard 55 tailights.

=============================================

Prior to 57, GM made little effort to disguise the Chevy body used by Pontiac. The 55-56 wagons
were particularly transparent.

Boy, does that autocamp photo bring back memories. Scenes like this were very common
in my childhood and a big motivator in my cars and other collecting interests as an adult.
This is part of my vision as I exercise my old car passion, ... drive the back roads, be in no
hurry, see the sights, smell the rivers, the pines, the sun on the hot tarmac, eat in little diners,
stay in little mom-n-pop places like this, live for a moment as it if IS 1962 !

No freeways, no chain motels, no McDonalds. Just me, the big wide open, and some fins in
the rearview mirrors.

I tried taking the back roads this past autumn to see the sights and not be in a hurry, but all I got was a line on cars behind me. I'd pull over and let them by and do the whole thing over again a few miles down the road. If you're not doing 5 to 10 mph over the speed limit they want you off the road.

One of my favorite "happy ending stories" .....

I was motoring along on a familiar two-laner, approaching a hairy S-curve that was the site of
regular wrecks. I had the classic Lexus dipsh!t behind me wanting to go 90 in a 40, and with a
long horn and a finger out the window, he passed me going into a blind corner, putting any oncoming
traffic in peril. But guys like him don't care. It's ALL about THEM.

So, I make it to the first corner and he's gone. As I make the second corner, there's his Lexus, ...
upside down in the weeds !

Naturally, I stopped, got out, and applauded as he and "his date" fell out of the upturned sixty-thousand
dollar dipsh!t mobile. It was beautiful.

=====================================

Another time, I was trailering my DeSoto across the state. It was winter, and we hit some real ugly
weather. The tow vehicle was my 58 International 1-ton. Slow and true, but none too fast ! Tiger Mt.
Pass is super steep. 2 lanes up, one lane down. I held the slow lane and plodded up the grade in 1st
gear, keeping a steady 10 mph to the joy of all the racers and stunt drivers honking and flipping us off
as they felt both lanes were fast lanes, I guess (?)

Well, we finally made the top. About 10" of fresh snow and still coming down. The road was an ice sheet
and I had no interest in wrecking my DeSoto, so as the passing lanes reversed at the top, we went down to
one and all the hotrods were now stuck behind me !

Now, any fool knows that if a load like this is going to get away from the driver, it will be on the downhill
slope, not going up ! So, I kept it right there in first, and proceeded to grind down the hill. This really
chapped the stunt drivers behind me, and they were passing with much vented anger displayed, much to
our amusement, I might add. Well, you go about a mile off the summit at a reasonable grade, before the
road really dives off toward the Raging River in a big, sweeping curve.

What, to our surprise do we see, as we made the curve ? Well, apparently a whole bunch of those stunt
drivers DID NOT have their snow stunt certification cards !!! .... and were piled up in a big mess
all up and down the highway there for about a half mile. Must have been 30-40 cars involved !

As we chugged on past, I was sure to honk and give a friendly wave, as I was *sure* that was what they
were doing as they passed us ! A lot of Sunday ski trips were aborted that day. What a dammed shame.
Breaks a guy's heart, you know ? I'm still broken up about it !

Looks like Mr PG was a mascot back in the day, according to google the visitor center
is in the train station down town today.

GM offered blue and green tops. Not sure if MOPAR did too ???

The all-black Belvedere ragtop (white top) I had was a no sweep car, but was equipped with

Anyone else notice that 58 Imperial several pics above here, getting doused with water, - the body side molding at the front door-to front fender is mis-aligned. And this is at the final assembly and testing I would suppose.

GM offered blue and green tops. Not sure if MOPAR did too ???

The all-black Belvedere ragtop (white top) I had was a no sweep car, but was equipped with
