No wonder it looks so awful, Ray.

'Pure ugly' gets my vote.

Looks better than a stock 59 Dodge !!!

Exner should have seen this as a more defined direction for his

Too funny. I actually stayed in that trailer court in 1959. My parents came out to Vancouver BC from Regina Sask towing a 1953 Terry travel trailer behind the 1955 Canadian Dodge Regent, flat head 6, 3 on the tree. Nobody told my dad that he should have a V8 to tow that weight (and my Mum packed *everything* into that trailer plus the trailer had a full apartment sized 24" propane stove (cook top, oven and broiler/eyebrow remover)).

Not sure when but that motel and trailer court were demolished to be come part of the MetroTown mall.

This is the trailer (14 ft. Terry Rambler - not ours obviously):

I think a bit of the Norseman lived on in that Dodge (and not just the early Dodge Charger and Rambler Marlin*)

*The AMC Vice President of Styling behind the 1965 Rambler Marlin was Richard A. Teague, who worked as chief stylist at Chrysler from 1957 to 1959.

Looks like a Firedome to me with the small rear glass and painted like an Adventurer with Adventurer wheel cover. Nice looking though.

Yeah, and the roof molding trim is not there like an Adventurer would have.

It's definitely a Firedome.

There was a Firedome circulating around the NDC DeSoto scene
when I was active with them that was built out as an Adventurer.
OR, ... it was an Adventurer that got rebodied using a Firedome
shell ? Could this be that car ?

Thought it was either a Firesweep or a Firedome - they both use the same trim from the front doors back.

A Firesweep has little different front wheel opening and that 'Sportsman' script is located slightly above than in a Firedome.
This one's script is located nearer to the fender side trim, so it's a Firedome. The front fender side trim is also shorter in a Firesweep.

In 1960, I walked into an auto supply store and walked out with a pair of those Foxcraft stainless steel fender skirts for $19.95 + tax. The first pair lasted about a month before they disappeared. The second stayed a little longer, but my insurance company said, "No more," so I pulled the stock wheel covers, touched up the black paint on the wheels, and got a set of baby moons. In 2000, when I got my current Big-Tailed Beast, I had to special order a pair and they cost $150 + shipping. However, no one seems to want to swipe them now.

Back then, baby moons were almost like belly buttons: everyone had 'em. By now, the statute of limitations must be expired, so I believe it safe to tell about a friend who desperately wanted those extremely sexy '59 Dodge Royal Lancer spinners and who thought he could acquire them through Midnight Auto Supply. Unfortunately for him, the owner had valve stem locks on them so a simple screwdriver was not enough to pop one off. Application of a jack handle only broke the stem which resulted in a horrible shriek of air blowing out of the wheel in the wee hours while the wheel cover clanged loudly on the concrete. Fortunately for him, a get-away car was close by with driver ready and engine running.

I think you're correct. There are a few words I can't make out:

I went out this mornin’ to admire my little darlin’, the sharpest 50 Ford in this town.
Clean just like a mirror with that leather hide interior and it sittin’ right on the ground.

I didn't like spinners, even back in the day. My 56 D500 came with the optional four bar spinner wheel covers and I took them off as soon as I got the car home.

Subsequently I bought a set of the normal 56 Dodge wheel covers like these:

Sooner or later the words of 'Li'l Nash Rambler' will come up on this thread...

Or maybe we'll have to stage a war to keep the Hondelles out of here.

i realy like spinners. they look best when the car is in motion. in the film "portrait in black" there is a d500 59 dodge 4d ht rolling with blinking spinners down a street, only visible for a second but that really impressed me as a kid and i still think spinners make a 50s car look like a chariot.
