It appears to have dual antennae, but the driver's side mast sure looks to be weirdly located on the body.

These cars look good without any bodyside trim. ![]() These are some fantastic photos, let's keep them coming! Here are two more for the mix! I think that width looks quite good, not overly narrow, but not really wide either. Edited by imopar380 2011-05-27 12:36 PM

Posts: 19146 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: bishop, ca | OK, for all you Sport Fans (Sport Furys?) out there, that 1955 NASCAR race at Weaverville NC occurred on 7/10/55 and was the 26th race of the season, which had begun on 11/7/54, at High Point NC and which ended on 10/30/55 at Hillsborough NC at the 45th race of that season. The Weaverville race was 200 laps of a .5 mile dirt track (as you can see in the photo). Tim Flock, in a C300, in car #300, took the pole and won the race (that's gotta be him, there). Car #301 was another Kiekaeffer C300, Fonty Flock, who started in 16th and ended in #2. Of the 18 car field, there was only one other Mope, a "55 Chrysler" driven by Lee Petty who started in 15th and who ended in 18th, due to a carburetor problem which ended his race on lap 3. He won $50.00 (in 1955-money) for his troubles. Tim F. received $1,000.00 (BIG money) for winning & Fonty F. got $700.00 for 2nd place---K. let his drivers keep all of their winnings, IIRC.....on top of their salaries (right, Wayne?). And, If I'm not a no-count, L. Petty may already have retired from the race when the above photo was taken---17 cars are seen running, with Fonty Flock's C300 still mired back in the pack, from its 16th place starting position, so this photo was apparently taken sometime shortly after the 3rd lap---with the field still bunched up, and with Tim Flock having temporarily fallen back into 3rd place. Plus, the signs are much more attractive in the older photo, at least that's the way I see it. ********************************************************** That's what I mean. Everything is stripped bare and sterilized. Back then there was a "certain" organic character, the mish-mash of individual shop signs and facades that gave street scenes a busy, interesting depth of visual character. Maybe it is my building back- ground that just screams "forced conformity, regulations, codes, fees, fines, and ass-kissing, to add to the already present disgust for such "progress", but the whole thing makes this kid pretty angry when I see it. This was no accident. Committees and "associates" drew up all these rules and crammed them down our collective throats as a matter of law, and now we can be told by THEM how our world will look or pay fines until they toss our butts in the clink or seize our property ? Wow ! .. .. now THAT is what I call "progress". ![]()

Posts: 19146 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: bishop, ca | Brent, you can't logically draw your conclusion from looking simply at this photo, or from any descriptions of this collision event. The Chubby van could just as easily have caused the accident, somehow, by its being driven out of control, or its collision roll over could have occurred independently from the Dodge Driver's apparently haven driven forward into the path of the Buick, which was apparently trying to make a left turn, when the Dodge pulled out in front of it. What is of note is that no skid marks were left by the Buick, which was apparently backed-up after colliding full-force with the Dodge, as evidenced by the trail of antifreeze that leads back to the Buick. The presence of that overturned van is of some interest, but what it is clear, from the observable physical evidence, is that the Buick collided with the Dodge while the Buick was attempting to make a left turn (note its front wheels that are still pointed to its left) while the Dodge was driving straight ahead (no significant damage incurred other than to its immediate center-front area, which is consistent with another vehicle's turning-maneuver impact on it). The Buick may have had the right-of-way, but that is unclear from the photograph. Also note that the two drivers are apparently seen, calmly exchanging information, with no police/emergency responders (yet-) on scene, and that no one is paying much attention to the overturned van, or to its occupant(s). It is probable, based upon the lack of anyone's concern about the van or its occupants, that that roll-over might have been an aged event, and that the presence of the van either obscured the approach of the Buick, and/or distracted the Dodge's driver, so that she(?) pulled out into the path of the on-coming Buick's driver. Posts: 19146 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: bishop, ca | ...Tells you what 'they' think about overturned Chubbie delivery trucks, too! "And, obtw, there's an overturned truck, there, in the background." The bystanders appear to be mostly white-collar types (remember 'them'?), in an industrial-looking area, and there is a single fixture traffic light at the intersection, so I wonder if the Dodge's driver was not heading out from a 'plant's' driveway access road. Somebody must have had the right-of-way, but I sure don't understand the significance of those divergent painted traffic lines that are put right across/through that intersection, and the car parked behind the Buick implies that the Buick might have been traveling in some sort of left-side, left-turn-only traffic lane (which would make sense if this is a 'plant's' intersection, with a lot of high volumn shift changes). Both drivers appear to be amazingly civil to each other, and unhurt (how?). Fascinating (to me, anyway) photograph. No problemo, Brent...
