Elite Veteran Posts: 769 Location: Oley, PA | Looks like a nice car. Estate auctions can be weird. Depending who shows up... From time to time, I've seen cars sell for way under market value, and sometimes incredibly way above. This car looks like it's been well taken care of. Some things I noticed: It appears to have the original 350 engine and torqueflite. The torqueflite is nice as a good number of Firesweeps came with Powerflites. It's been repainted at least once. The seats have been reupholstered. They look nice, but not original fabric or pattern. No radio or clock - typical Firesweep. Taillight towers show a fair amount of pitting - very typical and the bane of 57-58 Desoto owners. If that car were mine... I'd ditch the blackwall/dogdish/cop rim look and replace with whitewalls and full wheel covers. I know some of you like the dogdish look, but to me, it does not flatter this car. Next I'd remove those black rubber bumpers from the door edges. They disrupt the smooth sweep lines. Do those two things and this car would look sharp! My question is... what the hell is this white thing mounted on the driver's side of the engine? (58sweep.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 58sweep.jpg (211KB - 90 downloads)

Elite Veteran Posts: 977 Location: Sydney, Australia | Greg it actually looks like a bilge fan extractor. I wonder if it's a cheap setup to try and cool the engine or fuel... Edited by matte 2016-10-19 5:56 PM

Veteran Posts: 188 | I got in touch with the man who is organizing the auction. He asked me for my credit card information as a guarantee for my bid amount. I am not very familiar with all these procedures, but seems like I have to provide him my debit card details. Seems like otherwise I can't take part in the auction and it makes sense. And then the next thing is the bid amount. I already have something in my mind, but I will appreciate your opinions. How much does the car worth on an auction like this according to you? Thank you!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5047 | Kiko auctions is very reputable so you can trust them with your card. They have been in business here many decades and do a good job. I have probably been to 10 of their auctions if not more over the years. No funny business going on. I doubt there will be much competition there and many simply wont know what its worth. Its in a fairly rural area. It will be a pretty good drive just to go out there and that's not a parts car for us 2 door hounds so I expect you will get this for a very good deal. This could go very reasonable, and I doubt a Desoto nut will show up. Its obviously had a respray(but any other body work?) It looks in great shape for an ohio car but with 55k it should be rock solid and looks it. There are a fair amount of car guys around but they don't even understand what this car is. They would think "Desoto"? This car could go very cheap like I said unless someone drives far to grab it and knows kind of what its worth. A flipper wouldn't drive all the way out there I think to bid on just one car. I only have drive way space or I would store it for you until they could pick it up inside. Im sure youll have time to get it moved from there as it will take time to get the real estate transaction complete and other stuff moved out.
