Elite Veteran,, James Passed away March 2021, He will be Missed Posts: 1028 Location: Melbourne, Australia | I have this 57 Desoto Firesweep Hood Ornament for sale or Swap . I would like to swap a NOS Gold 1958 Hood Hernando Head and Hood Letters (Firedome larger type) or I will sell outright . This has a little fault in the chrome as shown , but it will still look great on the car and is very minor . But is NOS and never been on a car before . Expert Posts: 2788 Location: USA - KY | James, are the depressed areas of the long side "wings" of the frame painted black, or dark (or light) silver? I've heard that both paint colours were seen back in the day, but black was rarer? And is the paint shiny or matte? Thank you for any info you can share - this detailed kind of info from the owner of a NOS piece is golden for the restorers among us. That is a super nice piece! I would grab it if I didn't already have a freshly re-chromed hood ornament.

Elite Veteran,, James Passed away March 2021, He will be Missed Posts: 1028 Location: Melbourne, Australia | Hi Rosie , It was an argent grey colour , darker than silver but not quite charcoal . But remember NOS and production can always differ I suppose ? I know on my 68 300 Chrysler for instance , early and late production had different paint of either the argent or black paint on the rear panel depending on when it was built . I am not a 57 Desoto expert but this may help explain it ?
