This weekend there is going to be a 58 Plymouth Convertible auctioned at 776 W. Vine St. Tooele, Utah by Wilbur Auctions (WWW.wilburauction.com) Their phone number is 541-430-2689.
I have seen the car and it appears to be a very solid car with some very old rust repair in the rear quarters. The car is black,(its original color) and has an 80's style velour interior but was originally black and white. It is a factory 350 car and is running at this time. Aparently the owner died and his widow is selling it and a 59 Cad coupe and other cars this weekend.
If you go to www.wilburauction.com there are supposed to be photos of it. This is the only FL car they have, but it is a very good one.
Tooele is about 30 miles west of Salt Lake and is about 15 miles west of the Salt Lake airport. Here is your chance!
Oh, by the way, I have no involvement with the car, the owner or the auction company. The car was at the big Thanksgiving Point car show and swap meet and attracted a lot of positive attention.
It is supposed to be in the high 80's this weekend. You all ought to come over and enjoy.

I'm 90% sure that this car came up for sale a few years ago. IIRC, the widow twisted the arm of her dying husband until he signed the car over to her. At the time this car first came up for sale, she was asking way too much. She was not a nice person, according to my sources.

There is a thread on this car buried somewhere in the archives. It's an Oregon car.

Yeah I believe that car was being brokered by several People for that crazy Woman over the past couple of years. The last person who had it was "Classic Car Guy's" in Calif and was trying to get $39K. They tried to pass it off as an orig factory L350 and I believe Folk's here and myself proved differently. I personally ordered the paper from CHS and the IBI Card stated a 318. I offered $28K and they said no even though I showed them it was a 318 car. Nice car for an older resto, although it did have rust issue's in the past.

The auction firm told me that the widow was ready to sell and that they thought it would bring around 20,000. they even called her to get some answers for me about the original color of the interior. It is my understanding that it is a no reserve auction. I will be there this Saturday and will report the outcome.

Hi Dave,
The gentleman "Max" that was orid selling the car bought the paperwork at my request as we were working on a deal at $35K however he sent me a copy of the Title, The CHS Paperwork including the IBI card. The CHS paperwork had the same VIN as the pic of the VIN on the car which also matched the title. The Car was a 318. Sorry for the confusion. Once the car came back as a 318, I lowered my offer to $28K which Max said NO!!

Will you be purchasing the car at a good price or just going to watch? If you are not buying, maybe I can buy it if it's right? Please let me know. Thanks, Joe

Howdy Fellas, I am the "nice" guy from Colorado that is the new proud owner of the 58!.....it wasn't my plan to come home with the Belvedere, but sometimes cars find you, you do not find them. This is my first FL driver. For years I have always been a 59/60 GM guy, but really started coming over to the dark side when I helped a buddy a few years back pickup a 57 300. At that moment I started to "see the light" and wisdom of Virgil Exner and that Harley Earl did not have the market cornered on fins.

Anyway, this car really has me jazzed and would really appreciate all the intel I can glean from you experts. I found a website that was a starting point on decoding the VIN and cowl tag, BUT since my cowl tab was on the drivers side, not passenger side, there was no information. From above: The CHS Paperwork including the IBI card....I would really really appreciate getting this info. If there was cost to this, I will happily reimburse, or just point me in the right direction and I will get again.

Very interesting that it was supposed to have a 318. The people involved in the car swore up and down that the 350 was the original motor, but it has a single 4 barrel? I actually have a 58 parts car that has a 318 with a 4 barrel....was the VIN also on the engine block? If it had a 2X4 setup originally, would that be denoted on the tags/paperwork? Or how about power brakes?

I have contacted SMS and they repo the door/quarter panels and seats. They sent me a picture and they look great. I was concerned because it looks like there is some stainless steel bead molding on the door panels that I do not have, but they said that they can supply that as well????? Maybe they are not special SS moldings?

VIN: LPZE 58363
Cowl Tag: LP 55E 7079

The steering wheel is black and white, so I am guessing that the interior and door panels was black and white?

Looking forward to learning about the car, Thanks

Congrats on you new purchase! The body tag won't tell you anything about your cars options if built in Evansville, like in your case. Your VIN should read LP2E58363. You can get a copy of the IBM built sheet from Chrysler Historical for your car, information can be found in the forums regarding VIN and tag information. 350s are uncommon in convertibles, and they were all built with dual quads. 318s for 58 Belvederes were either single 2 bbl or single 4 bbl. No VIN is on the engine. The door panels should have mylar strips along the top.

Well done on yer purchase. A decade ago, I had alomst the twin to yours. 318, black, white top, no wings, inserts, etc. Only at the time, mine was the ONLY surviving factory 'stick' convt.

Thanks for the info. First step is to get the IBM build sheet. That stick convertible must have been something!

Door panel from SMS and note:

This should be the panel you need. We can make pieces that look like the moldings on the lower panels. You won't need to find any.

Can't wait to see it too! I have a bead on a 58 Plym convert east of Denver that I have to pursue now that my 59 is almost done. Keep in touch. We have a Mopar show on August 11th at SouthGlenn Mall in Centennial, Colo or we can see it at the Golden Cruise the first Saturday of each month. (like tomorrow!, 7-7)

See you soon!

SMS did the door panels on my 62 Dodge. This was in 1994 or 1995. At the time they didn't have a pattern and they said send your old panels and we'll match them. I sent them and they matched them perfectly. Here it is 17 years later and they are still perfect

Looks like I am going to be selling the 1958 Belvedere convertible.....Awesome car and drives great, but thought I could let one of my other ones go, but just cant do it. Looks like "Christines Revenge" and "1958 Plymouth Infina" tried to buy the car and couldn't......if you are still interested, send me a note and we can discuss it! Thanks Ken

Hold on to it, Ken! Over the course of the winter, you might gather up the strength to part with that other treasure!

Send me an e-mail or a personal message, Ken. I would like to go out and at least look before it sells to some distant land...

Problem is, Mike and John, that "Dern Bellybuttonitis" tends to be a "Chronic Disorder".
Those that have it seem to keep having "Relapses".

Best thing is to Push a couple buttons, turn the steering wheel on the Plymouth
take her out and really drive her----this should lessen the effects from the "Above Mentioned Malody".

Sounds Good for seeing the car! I am traveling to business right now, but will be back this Saturday, possibly Sunday. I will send you a private message. Thanks Ken

Also, posted above: "no where near 39K, keep dreaming in this economy!" I read this, and to me, it implies that that is what I am asking for the car............ ABSOLUTELY NOT! Much, much less! I am not into the whole world knowing what things buy and sell for. If I sell the car as a private transaction in the next couple days, and the new owner wants to tell the world what he paid for the car, that is his business. Obviously, if I "advertise" the car, I will happily post the price............

Fantastic, Ken -

John and I will plan on it. Maybe we can get Ray or Stanford to join in...
