Greetings all! I have been talking to someone about the a/c system in a 1955 Imperial. The system is not currently charged and when the Air Temp switch is turned on nothing happens, i.e. the compressor does not engage. The seller says this is because a pressure switch is preventing the compressor from running with no charge. Is that correct? I have seen this sort of switch in Ford products, but I have not seen it in Chrysler products of this general period, though I have never owned a '55. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks! Rex

The low pressure cutoff switch is common in all makes in later years but I don't think '55 Mopars had them.

Thanks! That's what I thought. There is some other electrical problem with the system or the clutch itself, I guess. I appreciate the answer. Rex

Power is transferred to the clutch through a brush or brushes, check for power up to the brush assembly and check to see if the brush(s) are intact.
