Arne really pegs my thinking on how to do a custom .... it looks as if it IS factory, or a period show car.

They are soooo BEAUTYFUL, an old fart like me could get tears in his eyes. Peculiar, how I never get over the feelings for these old cars. Perhaps it has something to do with the era and my life as a teenager in California in the 1960s too. I really wish I had my Hollywood customized '57 Dodge Coronet convertible and '57 Golden Adventurer 2 door hard-top today. And I never even thought about shooting some pics of them back then. Sad.

old fart.

Instead of "Windsor", the car should say "Mentor"!!!

...'cause: THAT'S how to 'do' a custom car!

Those are a pair of beautiful cars for sure. That interior on the convert is awesome, seats and console look to be from a 1960 300-F.

Check out the steeringwheel, newly made, a crossing between 58style and 1960 glass style steeringwheel!

Does anyone know what happened to the two factory Windsors? Were they crushed? Did one or both survive? Those two cars seem to be the ultimate rarity among ForwardLook cars. They make EFI cars look as common as ketchup.

Chrysler production figures list two Windsor convertibles built for the 1958 model year. As to what happened to them, no one knows, nor does anyone know for whom they were built. Most historians suspect they were built as prototypes - the production Windsor convertible reappeared for 1959. I suppose the only way to determine for whom the convertibles were built is to check through the build records.

Checking 26,975 build records looking for two convertibles. One way of going blind and/or insane.

So my question is, since this is obviously not an original Windsor converti, was it built from a Windsor 2 door hardtop / roof removed, or was it built from a New Yorker convertible - which would have necessitated putting the New Yorker body from the cowl back on a shorter Windsor frame, and mating the shorter Windsor front fenders onto it. Probably the first option. Does someone know for sure ?

When Arne put together this convertible he didn´t just smack it over a weekend! No way! He studied mother mopar how she did it and voila! a broken down Desoto firesweep convert with 122inch chassie supplied the platform to stand on, just as the factory did! i have an old magazine somewhere lying around with more info. i could get it and seek more info if there are special "need" for it! Mopar to you all

Hi Mogge65

I know both cars, your brothers from my trips to Sweden, and the "convertible" from the time it spend in Denmark, a friend of mine call'ed Anders, own'ed it at the time when you took your photos, as you can see it was on Danish plates.

I love the photo's of the interior in your brothers car, I to own a 1958 Chrysler Windsor 2 dr.ht., but my Windsor is whitout any interior, exept for the backseat, so it is always fun to se how it should look, i have owned my Windsor since 1990, but never have had the funds to restore, due to bad health, one day i hope to restore it.
