Expert 5K+ Posts: 9681 Location: So. Cal | This was the first time I have seen the '56 Dodge large dog dish in the wild. This car is for sale on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/3763710130541395 . The wheels that hold it on are not what I expected to see, but I could be mistaken. They might be the same as the '56 Plymouth wheels or maybe not. I have asked the seller for a picture of the wheel without the cap on it. The parts book claims that it was used very late in production, and only on 6cyl cars, which is very odd. Odd that they would change the design so late in the year, and then odd that they would only use it on 6 cylinder cars. My guess was that they were a taxi or fleet vehicle cap that was required for using the Plymouth style of wheel. This particular car is indeed a 6 cylinder, but not sure if it was a fleet vehicle or not. Edit: According to the seller, it was a one-owner car, owned by Charlotte Harris, who was a riveter during the war, and she was the only owner before he got the car. So it doesn't seem to have been ordered as a fleet vehicle. Very odd to figure out the application for these hub caps. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9681 Location: So. Cal | This is what the cap looks like by itself. I previously thought that it was a larger size than the other forwardlook dog dish caps, but it turns out to be the same. So these could fit on a typical '56 Plymouth wheel. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9911 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Based on the look and the felt pen lettering on the back and the fact that I owned a 55 Dodge (Regent) 1967 to 72, I think those are 1955 Dodge dog dishes. | ||

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9681 Location: So. Cal | Dave, I'm surprised you would make such a mistake. No, the '55 hub caps are completely different and use the same wheel as the more common '56 Dodge hubcap. Take a look at the parts list, and it shows these large '56 Dodge caps that I have circled red. I have included a '55 Dodge cap to jog your memory. Now that I see the 55 hub cab again, I see the error of my ways. You are the dog dish guru. I only had this photo taken in April 1960 to jog my memory. That's my pregnant Mum in the front seat. I am the little ( 9yr old) kid in the red sweater on the tressle with my 17 year old older sister (who just turned 80 this year).
