| What type of fluid is used in the power top system? I have heard it's automatic trans fluid but I want to make sure. I've installed new hoses. Some fluid ran out of the old ones. How do I replace the lost fluid? I assume I have to add it through the pump but I don't see a plug. Thanks for your help. |

Location: Connecticut | IIRC, the plug is at the end. Also, what kind of fluid is presently in your pump. If it's red, it's ATF. If it's clear, probably brake fluid. Either way, add more of what's already there. Don't mix fluids. Ron |

Location: So. Cal | Brake fluid? I would expect it to use hydraulic fluid, which is different than both of those. But I don't know what they typically had in them. |

Brake fluid would work. But they caution against it because it will remove paint if it leaks. And definitely not silicone brake fluid. Hydraulic fluid is a good choice. My preference is transmission fluid, simply because it's easy to see in the translucent lines. So when bleeding the system, you can see if there is any air left in the lines. Ron |

Location: Williams California | Use ATF. If it was filled with brake fluid prior to that, use denatured alcohol and flush the system before adding the ATF.
I had a friend with a Buick convertible that ruptured a hydraulic hose, and brake fluid sprayed over his car and ruined the paint. The ATF will make a mess, but nopt attack paint.

| Thanks, Ron. The fluid is red so I'll add ATF.

| Thanks, John. Last thing I want to do is ruin my paint. Most of it is original.
