Expert Posts: 1812 Location: Slidell La. | Very cool customs, keep em coming. Here s one of mine, definately not a custom but it is a Petty wanna be and it is signed by the man. It s not authentic looking if that is the rite word for it,looking at the correct picture ,but I still have oodles of fun.BTW non car people don t know any better, they just see COOL and they love it.This car is a driver and very dependable.Ploy 318,1960 Dodge wagon brakes up front and 74 Challanger rear end.It s cool to see a nostolgic stock car on the road.We have Cruisin The Coast down here and over the years I have seen about three other old stock cars, hopefully we may get another trend started.Charlie (DSC00851.JPG) (DSC00843.JPG) Attachments ---------------- DSC00851.JPG (22KB - 341 downloads) DSC00843.JPG (7KB - 338 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1812 Location: Slidell La. | I ve seen that car before,I don t know if that is correct either but it looks good.I do know that Petty s 59 that he raced was indeed white , that was long before Petty blue. But I went w/blue cause eveyone knows The King for his blue.Besides I ve never been correct about anything , so why start now.I found this one on the net a while back. Not to clear, here goes.Charlie (wildfire.jpg) Attachments ---------------- wildfire.jpg (11KB - 313 downloads)

Mark that box and then click on "Submit". Then just attach as many pictures as you want. REMEMBER THEY "HAVE TO BE" 100kb OR LESS TO POST. Down size if you have to.

Expert Posts: 2932 Location: Lemoore CA | I have a really great idea for a subtle custom I want to make out of an old 58 2 door hardtop Plymouth I have sitting out back, first things first, I am going to strip off the gold annodizing on the grill and some other parts, and have them redone silver, then I am going to shave some trim, I am going to remove the checkmark and just leave the top spear down the side, I think I will also remove the scripts, they say something weird like furry or fury, some kind of nonsense, and replace them with fancy belvedere scripts. Next I am going to do a radical body mod that when finished will appear subtle, I am going to cut the doors down a few inches and add some metal behind it to create a pillar that goes from the roof to the floor, and then I am going to add a second door on both sides behind the front doors. When the body work is done, I am going to strip the remaining paint, it's an ugly color kind of an off white, and go with something nice, mabeye a blue. After the cosmetics are done I am going to pull the 2 four barrel, gas guzzeling engine, and automatic transmission, I hope I will be able to find a kid I can pay to haul it to the dump, and replace it with a nice 6 cylinder with a 3 speed, it is very important to me to get that sporty look, so I think that instead of a colum shifter I will add a floor shifter. This is really going to be some car, I think it will really stand out among all other 58 Plymouths, and when people look at it they will say, "Thats the way they should have come from the factory". All kidding aside, I really like well done foreward look customs, but for the most part, I think most Foreward looks are as close to perfect as you can get in a factory car.

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | Some more. I'm glad there seems to be some increasing interest in these cars as customs. They really do have better lines than their peers, and the only thing that compares are the cars that were designed to compete against them - the '59-61 GM hardtops. Everything else pales. Expert Posts: 2932 Location: Lemoore CA | Danny, a couple posts back you posted a picture of a cream orange Dodge Polara, with a Chrysler front clip, I don't care for the top chop, but that sure does make a pretty neat looking car otherwise, I wonder what my 62 Newport would look like with mabeye a reverse of that, for some reason I have always liked the front end of the first Dodge 880. Anyhow, I am seriously considering a mild custom with my 62 if I keep it.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9681 Location: So. Cal | Thanks, I like it too. I've been thinking about what the '61 Imperial needs to look good. It has so much potential, but misses the mark. I think that if I owned one, I would do something like this: split the grille and hide the sides of the headlights with some good sized bumper wings. I think this could look much better than the stock version. (Modified 1961 Imperial.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Modified 1961 Imperial.jpg (42KB - 163 downloads)

Extreme Veteran Posts: 403 Location: California | I’ve always kind of felt that way about the 1960 Dart. I have always wished Chrysler had made the fins larger, like the Polara. It would be interesting to see what a 1960 Phoenix would look like if the fins still ran the same length but were more prominent height wise. Love those fins!
