Aaron My first car in 1974 was an all original 58 Custom Royal with all the SS package, but headlight surrounds were plain aluminum. The ad also states this car has a Ram-Fire 350, but the engine is clearly a 325 Poly.

Location: The Mile High City | I think perhaps they over painted the headlight doors. I think that the lower edge of the doors was supposed to be unfinished aluminum. I think the painted headlight doors was an idea that must have been quickly quashed at the factory. I would love to see the data plate on this one. The interior is really nice, but an unlikely combination with poppy red. I suspect the car may have been originally beige or sand metallic esterior paint scheme.

Location: The Mile High City | Another thought: is $39K the new standard for '58 Dodge Lancer coupes? The Denver Custom Royal sold pretty quickly at a similar price. I thought it was ambitious, but I was wrong.

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | The painted headlamp doors are only seen on cars painted a spring time color, poppy red R, Paris rose T and frosted turquoise J but not always done. Anything is possible, but from examples that have surfaced, that’s what has been seen. They only seem to be painted when the front fender, or top of the front fender above the trim is a springtime color. The lower edge of the bezel would be left unpainted aluminum as Mike stated. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was done for a short time during year 1958 production and possibly some factories did and did not paint them due to cost/time.

The only pair I ever saw where not painted. There was no actual “paint layer”. They were coloured aluminum anodizing. Greg

Extreme Veteran Posts: 509 Location: Whetstone, Arizona | It doesn't have a 325 Dodge...Oil filler tube should be in front of the intake...this one is in a valve cover...354 Spitfire maybe?...plus also if you look at the water pump cross over housing, on the left hand side you will see a plug( for a hose outlet)...Dodge engines dont have this. What it has (don't the number of bolts holding down the valve covers provide a clue to what it is/or isn't??):

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9681 Location: So. Cal | John, you should know that this is a 325 Dodge motor. One of the defining differences between '57 and '58 is that the '58 put the oil fill cap in the left valve cover instead of at the center of the motor. Also, I don't see the plug. I just see the bolt holding the negative battery cable on. This is obviously a '58 325 motor without doubt.
