Expert 5K+ Posts: 5009 | interesting custom. It is a real convert though. Seats are actually out of a thunderbird? oil pan needed fixed asap... exhaust hangs low in the front. Now im worried, why did he run the exhaust under the front suspension(I have a 392 im putting in my 57 dodge and it looks like i have plenty of room). do those seats look small also?

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9706 Location: So. Cal | I like the radiator. Anyone know where he got it from? I HATE the fan mounts that go through it. One of the dumbest ideas ever sold to the general public. That pusher fan is quite useless too, as he has it set up. Am I the only one that gets really tired of chrome & polish in the engine compartment? When I see it now, it just makes me tired to look at it. Edited by Powerflite 2019-08-24 11:47 AM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5009 | yeah i tried to avoid the engine chrome as much as possible but still had some show up. I think it feels cheap to put chrome in the engine bay. i dont mind polished aluminum to much as long as you dont go crazy. those cheap china chrome hemi covers discolor as soon as you run the car. You have to spend 500$ to get a proper deep chrome job that will hold up.

Elite Veteran Posts: 977 Location: Sydney, Australia | Ok I need some schooling. Is the steering wheel horn correct or should it have a gold centre? Besides missing the Fury badge and some chrome trim on the door interior panels, is the armrest usually a molded piece unlike the other models of that year? The side trim insert should be gold? Also it looks too shiny almost like the "mylar" ones that James Rawa had made a batch of a few years ago? And yes agree with above about chrome.. Same car different place and different side inserts(gold). Also another picture of engine bay showing pull fan on other side. https://www.btcustomrod.com/portfolio-items/1957-fury-for-sale/ Edited by matte 2019-08-24 6:28 PM

When I see it now, it just makes me tired to look at it. ==================================== In the 90's, when billet really became "the thing", I did an about face regarding glitter, and the hobby norm of "the more, the better". The guys who hunted up every conceivable option and hung it on their car .... nah, ..... too much. I am happy to see others have had enough and see the contrived nature of the over-blinged, over-restored, trailer queen kind of cars that were the highest point to aim for for so long. It seems more and more people are coming to appreciate the time capsule, unmolested cars for their honest representation of history.

Always hated chrome, bling and overdressed engine compartments, billet rims and garish, screaming paint jobs. Terrible. Edited by 1960fury 2019-08-25 6:26 AM

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | Nearly everything about that engine compartment gives me the shakes. Let's see, messy wiring and blue plastic butt connectors galore blingy carbs hazy 'polished' Chinese cast aluminum air cleaner squeezing a crushed K&N element a single fake braided hose and fake AN fittings bright aluminum radiator with some brand name scribbled into the billet caps and a clear vinyl overflow tube zip tied electric flex fans on each side of the radiator with some kind of Erector set bracketry (clearly indicates a cooling problem) IN YO FACE bright red Optima battery I never get tired of seeing old engine parts that have been chromed. Catalog-sourced cheap bling is almost always a bad idea. As with anything, moderation is key. The idea is to have a sanitary compartment that naturally draws your eye to key parts. The factory was interested in selling units, and didn't give much consideration to how these cars looked like under the hood. If they did, they would not have dominated the engine compartment with a fiberglass heater box, power brake canister and bellows, messy electric components, and Jiffy Jet lines going everywhere. PS, I can tell you for certain that those cheap Chinese valve covers do not discolor with use... but I'm having a set of '58 Imperial covers chromed just in case.

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | Doesn't your '56 Dodge have a Hemi in it? Why would you want "CHRYSLER" on those valve covers unless you were driving a Chrysler?

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9706 Location: So. Cal | Plymouth, not Dodge, but yes, I agree. That's why I am changing the covers to plain truck covers that would have been used on a real P501 I have been wanting to swap them out for a couple years now, but it was never a priority. Now that I am tearing the top of the motor apart, I am finally getting around to it. Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | So you're going to put Dodge truck valve covers on a Chrysler engine from an Imperial in your Plymouth car? You have no room to talk buddy!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9706 Location: So. Cal | Currently it is a '55 Imperial motor, yes. Eventually it will be Dodge covers on a '56 Chrysler motor in my Plymouth. Many '56 Plymouths used Dodge motors from the start. But even though I don't understand your motive for the Imperial covers, I don't really need to. I was just curious.
