New User Posts: 4 | We recently purchased this car. http://www.imperialclub.com/Yr/1960/Limo/Rockefeller/index.htm It is missing the ID plate on the door frame. Does anyone know where the VIN is located on the frame? TIA

Please tell us how you came to own this car, and what you intend to do with it, over on our Member's Rides message board. I'd think that the ownership records on the car (there ought to be a lot of them, on this car) would confirm its VIN. Over on our "Fender Tag Decoding " message board are a couple 'Sticky' messages that show you how to buy a copy of the factory's IBM Build Card record on your car; but, you'll need to show them the car's VIN and proof that you own the subject car. Again, welcome aboard!

Just as on a boat or ship, you face forward when determining left/right, port/starboard, etc. Being that this is an Imperial AND a limo at that, I think she clearly qualifys for the port/starboard/stern definitions. Heck, she could probably use a set of bouy's to help park! AMAZING car!!! ~MyDeSoto~

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | What would be required would be a harbor Pilot, tug boat(s), mooring lines, line handlers, and mooring fenders. Buoys mark channel lanes and hazards to navigation. Running-navigational lighting is required on all motorized watercraft designed or intended to be operated at night. What's all this have to do with an Imperial?

New User Posts: 4 | Thanks again, actually this car was purchased by my brother along with a group of others from an estate. It is only by chance that we found these cars as they belonged to a friends step father who had passed away. It is quite a car, did someone say HUGE well yes it is. It is still in good shape considering it has sat pretty much untouched for the past few years. The cars were stored in a number of buildings on a ranch. Lucky for the Ghia it was in one of the better garages and mostly just dirty. It was pretty amazing when these old beauties saw the light of day again after being locked away in the dark for so long as one by one they were loaded onto trucks for transport. With my brother's permission I'll take some pictures and post pictures of the others in the collection. Roxane

New User Posts: 4 | As promised pictures from the "Barn Find". I can't figure out how to post pictures so here is a link to see them. The cars are in the process of being cleaned up so not perfect yet. http://barriesbarnfinds.shutterfly.com/

Veteran Posts: 205 Location: Delray Beach, FL | Certainly if you've found imperialclub.com you're in good hands. Although I have not been active in owning cars for quite a while, I'm confident the online imperial club is one of the best resources. Since the Ghias were all put tohether in Italy, you can pretty much throw out all the regular references for what is what. After all, if the exact bracket, bolt, part or what have you was not in Italy - they would improvise. So you will probably find a mish mash of many years' trim and emblems on a Ghia. Two good books that have info on the Ghia limos are Chrysler & Imperial 1946-1975 by Langworth and Ghia - Foard's Carrozzeria by David Burgess-Wise. These are both probably out of print - so it's a little work to find a copy. Congratulations!

New User Posts: 1 | Hello Roxane My father and I owned your car from 1981 to 1985. It is the Rockefeller car, body number eleven, delivered to him in White Plains in April, 1960. The blind quarter roof and oval rear window was for this car ONLY. I had a copy of the cablegram from Detroit to Ghia outlining the special roof.. In addition, the car had chromed parade lights with red lenses mounted behind the grille. The car had come out of the Paul Stern collection in PA and gone through Leo Gephart to a collector in West Virginia from who,m we acquired it. Dad and I drove the car back to Detroit and it did quite well until the fuel pump packed it in outside of Ann Arbor, MI. The one off limousine made its debut in our driveway at the end of a wrecker. Very excited to see the old girl looking so fine.

Location: Under the X in Texas | It was a great car to get back on the highways and sort out a number of issues from long term storage. The original VIN was discovered through extensive research, engine rebuilt, new radial tires, bit of chrome, etc. etc. I had the front plate made for it. Very pleased Mr. Hallowell is thoroughly enjoying it as the new owner. Note the thread here is 8 years old.
