Location: San Antonio TX | Looks like someone mutilated a 57 in a half-assed attempt to create a convertible. To add insult to injury it looks like he shortened the wheel base too; check out how close that door is to the rear wheel. Comes with a 57-59 (does he not know what year?) parts car to "finish" it. Also, $7000? Seriously?

| Likely it's a combination of two cars that no one here would have saved but would like to bitch about what someone else does with them. So what? They guy worked with what he had, his car, his money, if all you've got to do with your time is to piss on someone else's work, you ought to learn how to better use your time. If they hadn't built it it's likely that they just would have been hoarded for donor metal or the trim, anyways. I come here for valuable information or to see what's out there but the tippy tappy too-much-time crowd scares most newcomers away |

no, he probably just destroyed 2 restorable fl cars. period. "no one here would have saved"? how can you know? i saved worse. only on fl.net people defend ***** who destroy the last remaining cars or use them in a demolition derby.
other websites dedicated to a certain group of cars and their preservation are much more appreciating and brand loyal. if that would have been a rare 50s mercedes, porsche or tri-chevy nobody would posted such a bs. some are in the fl hobby with heart and soul, others will never be and they will never understand. if they are "scared away"... good! |

I don't care what people do to their cars, to each his own. I just think this one came out rather poorly due to how out of proportion the car looks after shortening the wheel base. The fins were designed to be on a bigger car, and on something this short, they just look really awkward and out of place. It's reminiscent of the early 60's Exner designs that were hastily resized without giving thought to how the proportions would be affected by shrinking the vehicle.

You know I don't interact much around here but I've witnessed enough of your train wreck posts littered around that it was only a matter of time before we had the opportunity to chat. There's enough of your monotonous drivel around here with the same "back to the fifties" punchline that I can't hardly tell this one from any of your others but I will do my best.

How can I know? Because I'm not an hour from where he lives. If you find a car that old around here that the windshields are still in the chassis and the body mounts attached to the floors you've got a gem. Maybe in your corner of the world they fared better, but with the wet summers and salty winters here they didn't stand a chance. If you're feeling so charitable, I can take you to any of them in a forty mile radius, but then again, who would waste their time with a four door Savoy so rotten that the frame has snapped in half? You can spend the thousands of hours metal working and fabricating on a stubby sedan, since you're so dedicated.

I'm not sure what planet you're from, but there are none of them left. The ones that are still around have rotted into the ground or are getting dusty in a garage. I'd like to know where you find these cars so darned cheap and plentiful that someone can afford to own one, let alone put in a derby.

There's so much wrong with this I don't even know where to start. I don't think 50s Porsches or Mercedes are near common enough to even have a forum, let alone a large owner base. As for the second bit, this community is the only one I know of that can simultaneously bitch about how little interest there is, but be so quick to judge those who don't fit their own set of guidelines. The reason why the Tri-Fives have such a good following, even for four doors, is that they have a lot more open community. Restorations, street rods, kustoms, daily drivers, or anything in between. They're not so quick to judge, they have much more respect for one another. If you want to see more of these cars saved and less of them sent to the scrapper, lighten up. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Not everyone is going to fit in your box. You'd think that's something that should be learned by first grade but I guess not. One convertible clone (not saying it's perfect, but the metal work he must have done to get it all together) is one more that didn't end up melted for another jellybean pretzelmobile.
But, at the end of the day, if it offends you so much, and you're such a Good Samaritan- buy the car yourself and YOU set it right. You can readjust the wheel arches, tap out the stainless, paint it, do the upholstery, put in all the hours that it takes to do one "right". But we all know you're not going to do that. You'd rather sit on some message board worrying about what someone else does to their own darn car halfway across the world.

| this guy bought it like that... he didn't destroy two cars someone else did. supposed to be a very solid car.... so there someone down the line destroyed two solid cars
Maybe the two door donor wasn't solid(those skins behind the door look bad). The fireflight sedan was like rust free.
dunno why the original guy shortened the wheelbase, that was a bad move but just a way to get rid of the door area. custom frame underneath?
I am contemplating taking a very short amount out of a 58 Plymouth to fit a new wheelbase(like 6 inches).

you are full of bs. who es "we"? is it you? actually you little smart ass i've restored worse and currently restoring a badly rusted and wrecked 61 fury with a bend frame and a rusted out 60 desoto sedan. i'm saving as much as i can, i'm not destroying and cutting these cars into pieces. if you are too lazy or too ignorant to restore a car, don't blame it on others. there are actually people who appreciate these cars.

i've seen countless 50s cars, even older than 55 in demolition derbys in the last couple of years. a fl less than 2 years ago. what planet are you living on?

i second that. way out of proportion also with that square wheelbase/track it looks like and is deathtrap. and if they left it the heavy straight axle with that light clowns car chassis it will drive like a pos.
that said, i like the front end treatment, but for me its just that.

Location: So. Cal | Agreed here too. If they left just a little more length in the thing, it would be a lot better. I liked the idea of the custom, to create a smaller Imperial, but as with most customs, they went too far and ruined it. Additionally, turning it into a roadster was a cheap shortcut that really limits its use and storage.
