Expert Posts: 1886 | Racking is being cleared out finally. Behind where I'm standing will be the entry point and office area. The office area will have 2 offices and around 1200 sq/ft of open space. I'll use this to display small items relevant to the period. I've been trying to acquire cool and unique stuff, just not easy to do on top of everything else I have going on. Inside the big area, I was going to back the cars against each wall at an angle. All the cars get driven, so there will be no displays built around any of the cars. The exception being 2 cars that are very special and I hope to have done by mid year, non forward look though :). I'll start out with around 20 cars in here. In total, I have 30 currently, but some are in process of being finished. There is always 1-2 that are getting maintenance on some level off site. I'm trying to figure out what to do with my walls. I have a couple of signs I'm chasing currently. I'll hang neon off the big support beams. I don't want it to be gaudy. I'm thinking period correct. Nothing before 1950 and nothing past 1965. I'd love to hear thoughts or comments. I'm not sure what is out there as I'm just starting my search for significant signage. As usual, mopar stuff is difficult to come by. If anyone has leads or is interested in selling anything unique and forward look, please contact me. My hope is the building is ready by mid March and we'll start loading things in and figuring out what in the hell we're doing. Thanks!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7809 Location: Williams California | Mike, Keep an eye out in Old Cars weekly and Hemmings, there have been large automobilia collections that were auctioned off recently, and these had lots of neon and porcelain dealer signage, as well as oil company and other related items. Different upcoming auctions are always being posted. ---John

Expert Posts: 1886 | I have an assistant who is joining me Feb 1. This stuff is so overwhelming to try and hunt down. Not counting the fact this is my hobby and I have a real job I do most of the time haha. I'll be at Barrett this week, but I know things will go for stupid prices there.

Veteran Posts: 217 Location: Echuca | I think you need to put on Australian to detail your cars full time, will work for food and shelter...... Seriously though I am looking forward to seeing this progress and I think some of the original style billboards would be great to reproduce onto the walls without going overboard, too much would be a bad thing and take away from the vehicles which is also where neons could hurt the feel. The great thing about the Forward Look era of advertising is the art is relatively soft in colorings as opposed to the Pop Art style of the Mopar Musclecar era (which I do love too!)

Regular Posts: 82 Location: Eastern Manitoba | I think this project is fantastic. It is great to see it being undertaken by someone who can do a great job of things. I agree with the idea of getting old advertising blown-up for each panel area between posts or perhaps original design drawings. Too many old signs might take away from the forward look of the cars, you don't want to create an everything 1950's mancave look. Getting images printed on banner stock or murals painted on canvass would look good and be easily changed-out if you want to move the cars around or update the display.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5007 | maybe paint the upper roof black so it doesn't look like a giant cavern? lighting is good. Maybe just paint big emblems? Like a 300 emblem, or a fwl emblem or Chrysler/Dodge/Desoto stuff. Nothing super intricate? maybe just big stencils? I think that would be pretty cool simple and not cost a million or 2... I guess maybe talk to a big stencil guy? or have big posters made up of advertisements/brochures for the cars? Kind of like what I think Leno does to cover his walls a bit. I think the big blown up poster shouldnt be insane. back in the day they used to make block posters, im sure a local printer can make giant blocks with good print that can easily be hung. https://www.wired.com/2008/11/blockposters/ here is a guy in NH who prints giant vinyl and posters and all kinds of stuff. a 96*96 vinyl poster with hangers runs 396$ for example, you can price right there on the web. https://www.megaprint.com/contact.php

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9918 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Some how the number 1200 sq. ft. has been used and then repeated in this thread. That had to be a typo, i.e. more like 12,000 sq. ft. 1200 square ft is a 2 brm bungalow with one bathroom. This is not 1200 sq. ft.:

Veteran Posts: 210 Location: Suwanee, GA | Dave - reread Mike's post. He's referencing an entry point and office area (2 offices and ~1200 sf of open space) that are not visible in the photo. "Behind where I'm standing will be the entry point and office area. The office area will have 2 offices and around 1200 sq/ft of open space." Very impressive Mike! Can't wait to see it when it's done. Robert Edited by Ev's62Chrysler 2018-01-18 12:00 PM

Hey Tom, thanks for posting my 2015 Carlisle thread. I was thinking the same thing! The murals on the dealership looked great. Something similar in Mikes shed will be very cool! Steve.
