Extreme Veteran Posts: 335 Location: California/Wisconsin | Four years ago we found this two owner Dart close to home, along the Mississippi river in Frontenac, Minnesota. We have just completed a rotisserie restoration and brought it home last evening. It took about three years from when we started it to finish it, with plenty of pauses when other projects were focused on. It was built white as the picture shows the day we hauled it home. The original interior color was red and the top was black. We did find a build sheet under the glove box. We decided to paint it a seldom seen but available color called charcoal metallic that could be ordered with the red interior. The car was kept as built with 318 V8 engine with the torqueflite transmission, radio, heater, and power steering and brakes. We upgraded with air conditioning, deluxe wheel covers, clock, and bumper guards. Here are some photos, one as we hauled it home, a couple on the rotisserie, and then done and photographed today. There are still a few things left to tweak. I've added a picture of the California cars. Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | As for the "couple of things to tweak", you should look at the other cars' original condition trunks, and then try to replicate their asphaltic sound deadeners' appearance. It will take a couple hours to mask off the entire rear of the car, and the trunk's stiffener sections, but, when that's done, you can apply a rattle can semi-black (Bar-B-Que paint is a brownish-black) to those panels in about 5-10 minute's time. "Cast Iron", or "Bare Steel" paint can be brushed onto the master cylinder, to keep it looking new.

The steering wheel center would be nice to have in a matching color. All in all, an amazing car - congrats!

The steering wheel center would be nice to have in a matching color. All in all, an amazing car - congrats! From what I have seen and been able to determine, the color of this steering wheel horn bar in a brownish color is correct for 1960 Dodges with a red / black interior. My ex-Polara with red/black interior had the same color horn bar, and I have pics of several others with the red/black interior with the same brownish horn bar. Extreme Veteran Posts: 335 Location: California/Wisconsin | Thanks for all the nice comments and suggestions. The steering wheel is the original wheel with the original horn bar paint. There are several chrome pieces that have gold in them such as the P of the Phoenix and the front and side medallions, so I think the original gold-brown color of the horn bar is consistent for the car. The trunk sound deadening materials are painted black but are rough enough to not reflect well in the photo. Perhaps we will try to mask and make it look more uniform. The trunk mat is a mint original out of a sedan and I have not cut it down yet to fit the convertible. I like the shine of the wheel covers and bumper guards without the black paint but have put NOS covers now on the Polara. SMS did the well executed ribbed seat back sections with silver "stars" in a timely fashion for this car. Edited by PolaraPaul 2013-10-01 3:05 PM

Extreme Veteran Posts: 335 Location: California/Wisconsin | Nice seeing the interest in the color of the Dart. It is called charcoal metallic, a 1960 Dodge and Dart only color. Chrysler Corp. paint code is C-5186-YS and PPG can make this using that code. Paul, the steering wheel in my ex-1960 Polara has the brownish-gold horn bar as well, all original. Most I've seen seem to be painted a color to match the dash board. My ex-Polara also has a red interior. This picture shows the original, un-cracked steering wheel still in the car. (dash.jpg) Attachments ---------------- dash.jpg (39KB - 178 downloads)
