Member Posts: 8 | Mostly there with possibly some trim missing and very little rust, I found this '57 Fireflite in Nevada. The owner was from Los Angeles and had passed away. We heard from the family that he really loved the car and we're pretty excited about it too. It hasn't run in years, but is a solid car with power windows, power seat, A/C, power steering, and power brakes. After cleaning it today, we'll be going through the trim and boxes in the trunk as well as checking out the engine health soon. Location: Parts Unknown | You know that nothing good can come from this, right ? Welcome to the affliction. This is a highly optioned surviving Fireflite coupe. While nobody really knows how many were built with all the bells and whistles, it seems few survive. Finned cars suffered a harder fall from fashion than any other styling adventure and many were junked when even the slightest thing quit working or needed work. Give your numbers to Super Ed and he'll tell you all sorts of voodoo about this car. Arguably one of, if not THE best looking Forward Look design ever, the Fireflite coupe sports the best two tone side sweep of the fin era AND it matches the exact profile of the roof. Hard to beat a 57 DeSoto Fireflite coupe for pure sexy.

Expert Posts: 1488 Location: New Castle PA | Thanks for the promo, Doc! There are a lot of folks on here who know WAY more than me about these cars, especially after tearing every nut and bolt apart and then re-assembling everything. BUT, I'm happy to help in any way that I can. Finfan57 and I have been corresponding, and I know just a bit of the history of the car, as it's already in my database.

Between the two sites you will be able to find almost anything for your car you'll need. Since the DeSoto shares many things with other Forward Look automobiles, this site will likely be more informative overall. Good luck with your project and please keep us posted with your progress.

Member Posts: 8 | Thanks for the kind words about the car and encouragement. I've been on the lookout for a two door Forward Look '57-58 for several years, but this is the first time the where the stars aligned and my ability to get a car matched a car being available, and vice versa! Though I'm a lifelong mechanic, I'm sure I'll be asking all sorts of questions moving forward on this project. Though it still looks like it has its original sunlit yellow paint, someone painted an off white over the charcoal gray roof and sweep according to the data plate (decoded on Ed's site). Elite Veteran Posts: 1120 Location: Brisbane, Australia | Hi Sean what a great find. I think the '57 two door Flyte is the best looking of the forward looks and it is fortunate that you are not starting behind go as I did with mine. It puts you so far in front with the project when all the bright work and panels are there and not rust ridden. You certainly have Doc and Tomas's attention and I am sure we are all looking forward to see the progress as it unfolds on the forum!
