( Know most of the cars I find are junky to most people here, but, we need to save these old things and not go to the crusher or be stripped.)

Expert Posts: 2524 Location: Houston | That 57 Imperial is one example of the strange side of the hobby. Someone spent big bucks reworking this car into something that is ...incongruent. It has a fancy intake system that is essentially not suited for use.....those tiny little air cleaners? Really? It's had its pushbotton shifter disabled and replaced by a 'console' shifter. I'd be far more impressed if they had made the pushbuttons work. At the $700K price level, that's not asking too much. It's had it's stock rear suspension replaced by an Art Morrison 4 link. I'm confused as to why....are they planning to drag race this car?

Elite Veteran Posts: 628 Location: Lubbock, TX | I looked over the car at BJ this week, and I nearly lost my mind trying to figure out where that $700k was spent. The body was vastly original with no custom mods, only fabrication was on the engine bay. The interior was really poorly done, the seat backs were too square, the seat bottoms were to flat and squared off at the edges to be stylish. They adapted the rear quarter windows to be articulating and open outwards, but they can't because the fin is too close to the windows! The underside was nice, but not flawless and beautifully crafted, the drivetrain was mostly stock, even running the factory long block Hemi and 3spd Torque flight. I don't see a point in running an aftermarket shift system when the factory pushbutton is still a high tech looking item! Too long didn't read? If you wanted to pay a shop to build you this car, it would cost about $110k and probably be more practical than this one. Besides, all that work on a 4dr sedan!!!??? -Peter

Elite Veteran Posts: 628 Location: Lubbock, TX | Oh and the 1958 Desoto Adventurer convertible linked in the OP is the same car that was bid to $264k last year at BJ, the deal fell through, and supposedly the BJ collection sold it to the owner of the Cincinnati Reds or some other rich fellow on Friday. The 57 Imperial quarter windows can be opened outward from factory (only this year). but they hit the fins and scratch the paint so you can discount 100.000 for that custom job and still have 600.000 to justify..

Expert Posts: 1886 | I was wrong on the reds thing for the desoto. The person who told me about the buyer was hard of hearing haha. If I understood correctly it's a jewelry chain owner, think finks or similar. I'm going to clarify. The deal wasn't fully done just yet, but the car was spoken for. I'm waiting should the deal fall through. The 57 was a restoration done by a kid, who did very well for himself, for his father. The car had a ton of work in it, it was just hard to see for most. That's why the car choice was so unique. It was about his father, not investment. The car had been restored for 8 years and only driven 50 miles. A unique bird for sure.

Expert Posts: 1886 | You are one bitter man DD. Always ranting on this type of topic. I'll happily take my idiots with money badge, as I worked very hard to be where I'm at in life. You should finish one of your cars so you can take it to BJ and make money off these supposed idiots there. I'm curious which forward look car went way over value this weekend?
