Expert 5K+ Posts: 9911 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Recently, Vic R. posted this: Tokhem - 2021-12-11 7:40 PM Is there a way to tell if my 1957 Dodge Custom royal D500 is a Canadian car? I posted back: "You'll have to show us/tell us the VIN number (metal plate on the driver's A-pillar door jamb) to confirm, but my guess is it is a Detroit-built car (built around Dec. 17th, 1956) It does seem to be a D500 Custom Royal (body code 2586) and it seems to have a Torqueflite transmission (293). Paint code: 4LSL will be: 4 - Paint scheme where saddle area is different colour from the roof, fins and lower. (this is from Chrycoman (Bill W.)) Vic R sent a photo of his VIN (starts 372 so Detroit built, Royal or Custom Royal) (see below) Now we need somebody like LD3_Greg or frwl to decifer the cowl tags (I work better with IBM cards): 406 = ? 421 = ? 469 = ? 485 = ? 502 = ? 513 = ? 585 = ? Expert Posts: 1898 | . Something wrong with shade sun visors in this car: it looks like as standard and non-translucent plastic, as stated in the ’57 Dodge Options and Accessory Book - (see picture G) in description; It has equipped with incorrect shaded-upper portion windshield as well; the all windows must be clear… (1.jpg) (2.jpg) (3.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 1.jpg (165KB - 146 downloads) 2.jpg (61KB - 151 downloads) 3.jpg (59KB - 138 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1898 | . I’ve also checked the order codes: it’s all right – 396 – sun visor only and no one word about tinted glass in this column: 394 = Solex Tinted Glass except Convertible 395 = Solex Tinted Glass and Shaded Windshield 396 = Shaded Safety Sun Visors 397 = Solex Tinted Glass – Convertible (i.e. Windshield Only) (blanc built sheet example.jpg) Attachments ---------------- blanc built sheet example.jpg (159KB - 140 downloads)

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | Congratulations! That is a stunningly beautiful car, IMO perhaps the best color scheme for a '57 Dodge. The only thing I can imagine changing would be an upgrade to a nice set of Lancer spinners. And maybe not even that. It is truly spectacular just as it sits. Congrats again.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9911 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Vic: That is a beautiful car. I think we commented on it when Dan Schmitt had it for sale a while back. Almost perfect. BUT.... The air cleaner is wrong. The 1957 D500's had a higher flow oval element in an oval surround at the end of the side saddle air cleaner, not the round end one like you have. No biggy but it isn't correct for a real D500. Searching for a proper D500 air cleaner will give you something to look for when you aren't polishing that beauty. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9911 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Tokhem - 2021-12-13 2:01 PM Thanks Dave. I just found your pictures and explanation about the oval air cleaner. Great stuff. The reason that I am "tuned in" to the proper 57 D500 air cleaners is my 56 Dodge D500 came with a 57 Dodge air cleaner. I didn't like the look and I sold it back in 2016 as a 57 D500 air cleaner, based on the photos of your car when Dan Schmitt had it for sale. I figured that the round end must be correct because the restoration of your car was so meticulous. I was wrong. Several folks pointed out that the 57 D500 air cleaners had the oval end can and filter element. The buyer of my "D500" air cleaner and I came to an agreement (i.e. I had to pay him some money back because he wanted a real D500 air cleaner). Here is the link to that saga: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=63409&... Edited by 56D500boy 2021-12-13 7:19 PM
