I attended the Keeneland Concours d'Elegance in Lexington, Kentucky last weekend and they had a huge collection of great cars: Chryslers, FL cars, and letter cars (perhaps the largest group of letter cars assembled in modern times?).

Here's a big bunch of photos for you guys to peruse.

That has to be one of the biggest groupings of FL cars outside of a 300 meet. Super impressive cars! I love seeing the unique versions, like the two tone C. I tried to buy that blue wagon a few years ago. Seller was real nice and has no interest in moving it. Wow, what a great show.

I learned a few things reading the car notes .... like the 59 E was the first 300
available as a convertible ...

.... and that the unique fuel injection available on the 57 C was dropped for 58.

Hmmmm .... guess I had this all wrong !

They just make it up as they go along. Also that bit about the retooling of the windshield 'eyebrow' to increase proving ground speeds. Really ? LOL !

Yeah...imagine that two-tone 300 (appalling in and of itself) which came with an extra cubic inch.

That '65 300L convert is a very nice car...I'd love it to death in a different color.

But excellent pictures, thanks!

Very nice show with fantastic cars and presentation (we can forgive some errors )

Strange hing is that it seems to be sponsored by Audi, not the first choice for our hobbyists
That said, we do own an Audi A4 Quattro which we use as "Winter car"

Doc....
I guess that makes all the C and D converts phony made up cars then, huh??
Who ever made up those signs should do some fact checking!

That's the odd thing....it's as if the owners of the cars had the signs provided to them by someone else who got all of their facts from Ebay dealer ads.

Either way, the cars as are very nice.

I'm still hung up over that 'factory special' 300. That side trim is just appalling. I mean...if the original owner really did design the incredibly classy and refined 300, why would he then make his own car look like that? I guess it's like when you see one of those famous clothing designers dressed up like a train wreck.

Also...am I the only one who notices a few of these cars are owned by deceased people....? Yikes...I've always assumed I'd outlive my cars!

These cars rarely change hands. Over the next few years I'd love to focus on getting unique letter cars and imperials. I know it's going to take networking at shows like this. Nobody sells a forward look once they have it

As the years go by a lot of the owners are getting older and the cars will start coming to market. It's amazing how long some of the people in the 300 clubs have had the same car. My car came with newsletters from 1992-2012 and you see the same names in all of them. I'm getting a late start with mine but it was a lifetime of waiting to get one and feel very lucky that I could get it.

Glad you enjoyed the photos. It was a great event over all.

We owners were the ones who wrote the note for the sign that went in front of our car. I just wrote a general note about Virgil Exner and how his designs for the FL cars fit into history...other than how many of my car were made, and the original price, as far as we can tell these days.

(Thanks, Ed! )
