Location: The Mile High City | I found out about Don Petty because he is a member of the National DeSoto Club. One of the other club members recommended him for a rare visor part for my convertible. Don is a little hard to reach in the summer months, but he kept me on his list and came through big time in November. I would certainly recommend him too. You can reach him at 602-689-9414 and his address is Donald Petty 9220 N. 16th Pl., Phoenix AZ 85020-2338 He is an avid forward look fan too!

Great-lookin' quality parts from what I can tell. Also a nice guy... but a man of few words. Not cheap, but dependable, accurate descriptions. My .02 -NM Edited by Nathan D. Manning 2009-12-28 12:09 PM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5139 Location: cornpatch county, Southwest IOA | The guy I bought my car from is a friend of Don's and works with him. He took me out and showed me his toy yard-Don was up North for the summer. SOOO many nice parts on shelving outside A mopar Heaven. And I didn't even get to see his good stuff inside! He is said to have one of the most extensive Chrysler 300 letter car collections in the world. I did not get to see them... You know, he is Richard Petty's uncle.........................MO

No sh!t???? Seriously? -NM Well, "Don Petty" is a fairly common name... and (being southern) I didn't figure on the Petty Family connection being spread out to Arizona. Meanwhile, now that you mention it... it makes just enough sense to be true. That's an awesome bit of trivia, Mo. -NM

Member Posts: 10 | I just bought a '56 D 500 that Don used to own. Don sold it to Dave Hudson, a friend of Don's from Phoenix and he sold it to a wealthy car collector in Oregon. Just talked with Don to find out more about my car (a pristine real D 500 3 spd/overdrive with a correct dual quad setup). Lee Petty is Don's uncle and Richard is Don's first cousin. So, I think I may have made a good purchase. The main thing I want to do with the car is put in the stock Coronet interior as David put in a beautiful, but non stock, interior. I'm hoping that the original is still underneath it. I'd also like to replace the full hubcaps with "dog dish" type. If anyone knows how to contact David, or has any advice regarding stock interiors I'd be extremely grateful to hear from you. Will post photos soon. Jon Harrison Portland, Oregon 503 502 0169

Extreme Veteran Posts: 429 Location: McCleary WA | Rocketjon - 2016-09-24 10:43 AM If anyone ... has any advice regarding stock interiors I'd be extremely grateful to hear from you. Jon Harrison Portland, Oregon 503 502 0169 I assume you are aware of SMS Auto Fabrics in Canby OR? PH: 503-263-3535. Very frustrating to deal with, but they should have the correct interior materials, and can repro door panels. Just allow a 12 month waiting period...

Member Posts: 10 | Thanks, Darryl. I talked to them yesterday and wasn't quite sure what they needed. Seems like I really need some old upholstery (doors and seats) to copy. I'd want black and white material from a Coronet.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 429 Location: McCleary WA | They did my '57 Coronet door panels without my supplying patterns, samples or even photos. I did go there to double check on the cloth to make sure it was correct. It looked more silver than my original, but everyone including greatly missed Neil Vetter insisted that was correct.

Member Posts: 10 | Thanks for the info, but I have decided it doesn't make sense to trash a very expensive and beautiful non stock interior that someone else might love.i plan to sell the car and minimize my loss.
