Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13055 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | Those are "yellow" parts Magnus, known to possibly fit, possibly the hole pattern doesn't fit, possibly coarse bore and possibly good. A big chance to take at that price - ask Carlo if he has some NOS or aftermarket that's good.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | The website looks to be very responsible and concerned about the quality of 'their' wheel cylinders. If I couldn't get real Raybestos(etc.)-made cylinders, I'd probably try buying these guys.

Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13055 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | Well Steve, sorry if I didn't express myself clear; It must be old parts, aftermarket NOS for to be real good, most of he repopped "nonames" are crap. Now that you bought never"yellow" Raybestos, I really hope that they have the same good quality as the old ones. Please inform us about the fit and function.

Veteran Posts: 253 | They DO NOT -- many people that have used them they don't match exactly -- they have to do some grinding and such -- and the wheel cylinder links do not fit smoothly into the pistons...... I have some N.O.S. U.S.A. (including EIS -- which went out of business in 1992 -- that was my "Uncle Eddie" -- E.I.S. stands for Edwin Irving Schwartz!!!!) and I was the first to reproduce the center - plane wheel cylinders --- and still have U.S.A. made with NO PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!! Veteran Posts: 210 Location: Suwanee, GA | I'll share my experiences thus far redoing my rear brakes on my 62 NYer wagon. I purchased "Best Brake" wheel cylinders from O'Reilly's (I know, I know...). First, they wouldn't seat flush against the mounting plate. Rather than returning to store and sourcing replacements, what the heck, I'll grind them to fit - not a problem. Then when attempting to mount them with backing plate to axle housing, the thickness of the machined surfaces of the cylinder prevented the mounting plate from fitting flush with backing plate. After measuring as best I could, I figure the offset of the machined mounting surface (with tapped holes) with respect to the bore is ~1/8" too short (~1/8" more material should have been removed). This also prevents cylinder bore being centered with respect to mounting plate, causing shoe pins to be at an angle. Knowing this now, I'll have to recheck one of my fronts as I massaged the backing plate opening to get the mounting plate to fit flush with backing plate. I reconditioned 3 of my front cylinders and will check my rears to see if they can be honed as well. If someone has recently purchased ones that fit correctly, please let me know. Veteran Posts: 210 Location: Suwanee, GA | So I took them to work yesterday and had our machinist mill just shy of 1/8" off the ears, and they fit and line up perfectly. Is this what others are having to do too? Next I'll need to check the one replacement front cylinder to verify it's in alignment as it needed massaging too. Oh the joys of inferior reproduction parts! Robert (IMG_4649.JPG) Attachments ---------------- IMG_4649.JPG (205KB - 130 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1348 Location: Valley Forge, Pa. | why not find some NOS cyl. kits and take some original worn out cylinders or, like I did, by the cheap chinese ones and get them sleeved with brass that will last the life of the car? Brass is more corrosion resistant, smoother and harder than cast iron. It costs around $50 or more per but you should never need cylinders again. Put neverseize on the outer end of the threads. Stainless bleeders are nice but are not as strong as steel. Cover the bleeder or at least around the base with grease or some type of sealant. Karl.
