A friend is looking at buying this car. He has the VIN, but I told him to get the data plate. Here are a couple of pics, Thoughts ? ballpark price ?

So hard to tell based on just 2 pictures. It has modifications from factory, which brings it down off a top price. A top of the line restoration to original standard is 150k. One sold at BJ in January for around 50k. It was an older restoration, was presentable but would need some real work over the coming years. I think if it's a "nice" car you're dealing with a range of 50-80k depending on quality.

At least $2000, steering wheel is worth that

But I agree with Mike, watching these cars come and go, I think around his mark

Like with any high end car (well any car really), a close inspection would be needed

As far as getting it back towards original, it will need a fair bit to do that, full interior and driveline and a little bit of floor work

If you like it as is, (I would be happy with it), then by the pictures, theres nothing much to do

He looked closely at the car again today, and after finding missing data plate, misaligned panels, patched rockers, and newer motor/trans, he decided to pass. Thanks for your input.

A shame that it's been modified with different seats and the lever shift.

It definitely gets your attention and if that's what is of most improtance to the buyer, then it just boils down to how much he is willing to pay and how little the seller is willing to take. From what I read above about the car from the interested buyer who wound up passing on it, I'd say $20K at the most with everything working properly. If the body repair wasn't that good, one can expect a re-do repair down the road. The interior looks nice but far from original and the later model drivetrain would be OK for a driver and a parade vehicle.

I've seen this car in person. Yes, the interior is from a later car. At the time the owner wouldn't show me the engine. Now I know why. Car is painted Bimini Coral, a 59 Desoto color. It's a flashy car, if that's what you're after. I agree with Viper Guy. $20K, if everything works.

Ron

For 20K, I dont think you would be in danger of being inflicted with this car

That would get you something thats just been dragged out of a barn needing a full resto, but not to bad (read falling in half)

I think Mike is pretty much on it with his value, and I would expect higher in that scale (around 70K I think), but I will say that thats assuming a quality job has been done

I tried (and was hoping against hope) to buy one a few years ago that had been drowned in the hurricane that went through Boston, I had 10K + desperation money to try and get it, but it got pulled from the auction, just a couple of hours before the start (I was unimpressed)

That car had been submerged to about 1/2 way up the sides (going by the water mark) in salt water and also had evidence of the engine failing before the flood, as in, the sump was off and so was the exhaust system, but this was guesswork on my part as I never saw the car in person (still wonder where it ended up, it was pulled due to "litigation" according to the auction house)
