Temporarily suspended to cool off

| So I load tested the electical system on the Phoenix over the weekend and it would output 30amps, but the voltage was all over the place anywhere above 20 amps. I suppose that could be sorta normal but it may be something I should screw with. I don't have enough experience with generator systems to know!
I know one of the answers is going to be "scrap that junk and put in an alternator!" That's really the correct response in my case, just point me towards some jankyard parts or conversion kits and I'll be on it like flies on cake. It looks to me like I could get the alternator polyhead brackets and just bolt up a 65 amp alternator setup. |

Location: Arizona | How were you loading the system while you were testing it? When you say "voltage was all over the place" what does that mean? 8 to 27 volts or 12.3 to 13.8 volts? With a points regulator I would expect voltage regulation to be a bit erratic. Maybe you don't have a problem. If you do decide to go to an alternator there are a couple sources for adaptor brackets that will bolt to the genney mount on 60 and earlier heads and allow you to mount an alternator. |
