Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | Maybe this is a Canadian thing? When I was cutting the ratty seats apart, I found a spare vin tag (matching of course) inside the seat back. Anyone else ever have this happen? Just wanted to confirm.

Expert Posts: 2312 Location: Arizona | Makes me wonder when the plates are stamped. As soon as the first piece of metal goes on the assembly line or do they stamp them toward the end at the point where they attach them to the car?

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | Kind of strange Because of the sequence number, I thought they just stamped out a series of tags and had them sitting there ready to go as the next one came along I wonder if someone (later in the cars life) lost the tag and a new one was made (by A G Backeast?) by someone

And if someone swapped seats it would land up in another car. Also, the seats were made by a contractor, not Chrysler. Someone made a mistake and appears to have made another tag to replace it.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | Here is the vin tag in the seat, the seat back was intact with no stitching looked original. Its painted black to match the frame also. I didn't notice it easily. Holes on both ends, crimped with a hog ring. I guess it was a Canadian thing or aftermarket? Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | Thats different to a vin tag though, it does not have the edging on it My rear seat had/has a tag on it, but I dont think it was the vin, I think it was a part number (cant remember now)

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | I have seen part numbers on seats. Trying to make out the VIN on the tag. The top row should be four letters and numbers, and the lower four or five numbers. Just does not make sense to have a VIN tag attached to the seat where no one can see it. At least not without taking the seat apart. Being hidden the tag would have been placed on the seat at the factory of the firm making seats for Chrysler Canada, and not at the Windsor assembly plant.

Easier to attach a metal tag than keep a paper along with it as the frame was transported from metal assembly to cloth assembly. The assemblers would check the number to a list and know which pattern to send with it. I'll have mine apart in a few months and see what's in there. I'm betting a similar tag. I'm curious if it's aluminum as the tag on the post or steel.

Expert Posts: 3480 Location: Montreal, Canada | That is definitely the part number tag for the seat frame. I have seen the same tag in all my Canadian cars and seat frames. Here's a couple of pics of the same tag in my '59 Dodge Mayfair: Edited by soiouz 2015-09-09 9:56 AM (IMG_1801.jpg) (IMG_1800.jpg) Attachments ---------------- IMG_1801.jpg (130KB - 155 downloads) IMG_1800.jpg (200KB - 159 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | Yes, now that tag I have seen on the seats of my 1962 and 1965 Valiants. My LA-built Lancer also had tags with the part number, and one (paper tag) with the name of the company that built the seats. No serial numbers / VIN, though.
