The car for sale by Flamin.J really has me by the gonads Maybe, i can get him to sell me the engine and rams, havnt asked and probably shouldnt, but wouldnt hurt to know The blown 318 poly idea is still going through my head as well Works quiet, stupid ideas keep coming

I don't know if the poly transmission would handle the power of a big block or what gear ratio/converter stall differences would be.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8445 Location: Perth Australia | Thank you gents I wouldnt have thought there would be any difference between the poly and big block converter and trans? Good to know though

Expert Posts: 1740 Location: Alaska | According to an interchange book I have, the early Torquflites were built progressively heavier depending on what engine size they were bolted to. Also the 57 models were air cooled so better to go with a later trans. originally from a big block. Of course anything that old would have to be rebuilt anyway so HD parts could be installed if available.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8445 Location: Perth Australia | I have a spare 60 tf sitting there, but I would have to chase the bell Is the way the torque converter attached the same or did the bb engines use a flex plate Should look in my service manual, shouldnt I

Expert Posts: 2490 Location: Kansas City, KS | no flexplate pre-62. Poly, Hemi, and RB all bolted to the same 8 bolt pattern crankshaft. I was hoping someone else would chime in with the detailed differences in what each model transmission can handle (because I don't know those technical specifics). I have done this exact swap that you are talking about. I put a '58 poly/hemi trans+converter behind a '61 413. Swapped the bellhousings and it went right in. I did have to change cables as they are different pre-59 compared to post-60 but this part shouldn't apply to you.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8445 Location: Perth Australia | Cheers Don This is still all pie in the sky stuff, but I have always (well since I found out they existed) wanted to do a ram car, but all he stuff I have is 60 poly I still have a more burning desire to do a blown poly and just bought a top 1/2 blower manifold to see if I can adapt it to a 2x4 base Thing is, its going to end up to high, but early days yet The other idea would be a twin blower setup on a cross rammed engine using smaller blowers mounted 1 on each ram As I said, pie in the sky (not to mention lots of dollars), but interesting to know Cheers
