Hello all, my Plaza recently started making some rattling noises and I suspect the throw out bearing. I figure as long as the transmission is out I should replace the clutch disc and pressure plate as well. And help in recommending good sources for these parts would be greatly appreciated.

My car is:
1956 Plymouth Plaza
270 (4.4L) engine
3 speed with overdrive

I believe the clutch is 10", but some googling showed reference to 10 3/8" as well. I've had good luck with rock auto and they have the throw out bearing and pilot bushing, but I sure could use help sourcing the disc and pressure plate.

An idea for you..... do you have a local "Joe's brake & clutch" type outfit? Likely, they'll specialize in heavy trucks. They may well be able to rebuild what you have. This is the route I've gone in past with brake shoes and I've had good luck. Even if you don't have one (or can't find one), a heavy truck dealer in town may be able to point you to a shop that does brake and clutch rebuilding/relining.

Good luck!

Any clutch specialist shop or even decent parts shop should be able to source your clutch parts, these early cars run the very course (10?) spline input shaft. I'm sure when I got an 11" disc for my '57 Chrysler it turned out to interchange with a Ford pickup or something like that. The original Borg & Beck pressure plate can always be reconditioned but I used an aftermarket unit.

Should be fairly easy sourcing all you need.
