Oh, Being the type that loves watching machines work, I would like to make clear ones one day

It would be so cool to make one of thos crappy plastic V8 models actually run on fuel

Other thread for pictures

I dont know why this post happened, but it wouldnt let me delete it?

I noticed that if I remove the valley cover oil plug on my 354, I can watch a couple of the lifters in action.....

What the average person would find is that watching rocker arms do their thing is very interesting. For 3-5 minutes. It takes a person of very special intelligence to find it interesting thereafter. Very Special, if you know what I mean.

What do you mean by that

With clear rocker covers, you could keep an eye on whether the engine was sludgeing up ore if you were getting coolant in the oil or something

I wonder how smokey it would be once the oil warmed up

Maybe, one day, when I get really bored, I could make a couple

Any market for clear resin copies of finned alloy rocker covers?

LOL.

As a long term part? Probably not so good. They used to sell them for SB Chevy's but over time they would get cloudy and the plastic would get brittle from heat and age.

In my younger days I set up a set of triple single throat carbies on a gm 6 cylinder and I couldnt find any really small air cleaners at the time to fit it, so, me being me, I got 3 of the smallest round filter elements that I could find and made an air cleaner out of tinted perspex (it was laying around waiting to get used for something)

It was basically a rectangular tube with the filters snugly pushed into it top and bottom, but had a bit of room to get around the sides so all the filters/carbs got some air

Never melted it and it stayed there until I made a turbo setup for it

Sadly, I dont have pictures of it, but typing this out has bought back some good memories

I remember reading an article by Smokey Yunick where he made a bunch of clear plastic parts for a SBC engine to try to learn more about how the oil behaved in a running engine. I guess it did some good for him to watch it. What I remember most is how he said it was surprising how two different brands of oil poured into the same engine stayed very separate from one another as the engine ran.

His problem was that the hot oil degraded the plastic and it cracked apart after a while. I guess the right plastic must be used...

Years ago you used to be able to get the clear ones (like Chucks one above) for almost anything, coloured transparent ones as well
