Is there a gasket between the oil pump and block? My gasket kit doesn't have one, and I don't remember if one was there when I took the engine apart.

No there isn't, make sure the mating surfaces are not nicked though

still a good idea though to put on a very , very thin coating of black rtv . some of the gasket free mating surfaces are milled a little rough ----------------------------------later

If you really think that 'something' is needed then use a piece of notebook paper, or a very very thin film of Permatex form-a-gasket to fill in the tooling marks.
RTV of any kind inside the engine, especially at the oil pump, IMHO is a bad idea.

If the mating surface leaks a little, so what? It ain't going anywhere but back to the sump.

This subject has been argued many times before, it seems that some did have a circular gasket but only if the pump/cap had a shallow bore for the gasket.

Thank you for your replies! I'll look to see if the mating surfaces are smooth.
