Hi All, What thickness should the torsion bars in a 57' plymouth 2 door sedan be, to run a  big block? Would a pair from a 58' dodge sedan with factory big block be the right one's? At the moment the 57' has the standard one's for the 303 poly installed! Thanks in advance,  Glen

The standard 1957 Plymouth V/8 torsion bars are P/N 950/951.

They would be 1" diameter.

You should put on the bigger, 1.04" (IIRC) easy-to-find 952/953 bars which are found on the 57-58 Belvederes and Furys, and on the 57-58
Dodge Royals and Coronets.

Any of the large national wrecking yards should have these car models, which can provide their T/bars to you.

You might, even, be able to do some price-shopping on them, too.

Before you do order any T/bars, you should get under your car and look at the exposed butt-end of your car's T/bars, to confirm
whether you have the 950/951 or the 952/953 bars.

Those numbers will be raised cast-in numbers on the bars...just gotta clean-off the grunge that may be hiding them from your view.

Here's an image for you...

That brings up a question for me. I have the arrows indicating direction on one end and the numbers on the other. I was under the assumption the arrows were in the back and the numbers up front. Obviously not so from your picture!?

Front to back doesn't matter. The twist is the same.
Left to right does matter and the bars should be kept on the correct side of the car.

Dodge/Plodge doesn't matter; just confirm the Part Numbers on them.

And, the 'even' numbers go on the right side of the car (looking Forward, from 'inside' the frame).
