Location: Dublin Ga | Thought my power steering pump was leaking to ordered a kit. Local shop rebuilt the unit. As soon as I installed it the unit started to groan moan and squeal and almos instantly quit pumping. Then a lot of metal scraping was heard. Then all fluid poured out of steering box. I believer the innards of the steering box were demolished by chards of metal from destroyed impeller blade parts.
Could someone pleas recommend a course of action. I can get rebuilt pump but a do not know where to either get a rebuild kit or another Box or adapt some later bopx. Anyone got any suggestions
Also could someone tell me the type box and what other models use this box or even better what later box would work .I have been unable to locate an interchange book Or even better anyone here have a spare or used one laying around they want to sell to a needy soul? I will go to a very nice 4 door Desoto I will not be squandered on a hot rod!thanks

The same Power Steering Pump was used on every Senior Chrysler - Junior Chrysler - De Soto - Dodge and even Plymouths until about 1968'ish. The Imperial Division used
the same pump but with a higher pressure.
As you know - if you have Scrap Metal - The Steering Box will now need to be cleaned and etc.
Haul the two items into your local NAPA and say that you want their "re-built" units.

Their Quality is irregular.
I suggest send your pump and box to Steer and Gear in Ohio.
They will rebuild both. |

Location: York County, PA | I wouldn't go to that local shop anymore. I have several steering boxes but am physically unable to remove them at present. |
