Regular Posts: 72 | Hi, I have just a few 413 questions!! Firstly i have a set of felpro head gaskets that just dont look right! My car has had horrific overheating problems since I got her and on inspection I found that the head gaskets all but cover the water galleries into the heads. See attached picture for clarification. I was wondering if the design may have changed on later B and RB engines and Felpro just sell a generic gasket?? Next i need some standard rocker covers as the cast Mopar ones I have dont clear my newly aquired cross rams. Whilst on the subject of cross rams I am missing a few bits and pieces for them such as the crossover tube and the underside throttle linkage lever. Any help with these items would be hugely appreciated as I live in Australia and its very hard to find anybody with any knowledge of these cars! Thanks for your time, Kylie

Regular Posts: 72 | I'm having trouble loading the headgasket pic! Its telling me its too big even though it isnt! The obscured holes are on the valley side of the head inbetween the compression rings. There are 3 of them but Felpro provide a small slit instead...

Regular Posts: 72 | Head Gasket pic - sorry about the poor quality and size but if you can sea the brown water stain versus the tiny mostly obscured slit you can probably see where my concerns lay! Expert Posts: 3575 Location: Netherlands | - Gasket is fine. It's designed that way. - Crossover tube, measure the offset needed to cover both intakes and perhaps have a local exhaust shop put a shallow zigzag bend in a piece of 1-2/5" or 1-3/4" tubing. The original crossover tube was flattened in the center to maybe 1" thickness to clear and snake between the manifolds. Could be done with a decent benchvise or small press. - Lower throttle linkage could also be made by copying the original design. Use iron rods, not aluminium as this will expand slightly more then iron when hot and might cause warm high-idle rpms.

Location: North Australia | Hello Kylie, I am in Darwin and rebuilt an early 413 last year with the (what looks like) same Felpro gaskets. I think BBM is right. My engine is working fine. I believe the holes in the gaskets main function is to let the air be displaced when you fill the cooling water system. I did have overheating problem when filling the engine with coolant and running the first time (every time I primed the system with coolant actually), and I think I worked out what was going on. Read through this thread on my freeze plugs to see my mail on priming the engine with coolant. http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forum... I also had a freeze plug blow out of the head, which is another problem I had and solved which is what started the thread attached above. I have been driving my 413 powered 1960 Imperial for over a year and it runs great. You might have another problem causing overheating, please describe what you have done to the engine etc.. and put up some pictures of your car! How did you go with the gearbox problem on your New Yorker? Steve.

Regular Posts: 72 | Thanks for your help and advice on that. I really was hoping there would be a problem with the head gasket! My car is suffering major overheating problems and I've basically replaced EVERYTHING! The engine is out of the car at the moment to enable me to fix a raft of other problems but should be back in there in the not too distant future, once I have sorted out my firewall and floorpan issues!!
