I need a rear axle and Brake backing plate for a 58 Imperial - NONE Sure grip. I believe any 1957 - 1962 Imperial Axle will fit.

My axle sheared clean off on the highway going about 90KPH. Very Scary indeed. Now I know what that vibration was I had for about 2 years

Had a similar thing happen to me with an FB Holden

Fun isnt it

I have parts, but they are not imperial parts, pretty sure the axles ect are imperial only?

Where in Aus are you

Chris, you might want to think about updating your maintenance schedule

2 years????

I am no expert but-

I believe the brake backing plate changed mid 59, so you might need to narrow your search.

Where are the photos of this Imperial????

Was it the wheel bearing which failed?
Also be aware there is a potential problem setting up axle end float when replacing the wheel bearings on this type of diff with modern bearings.

Steve.

The Axle shaft broke in two about 2 inches from the bearing. Looking at it indicated it had metal stress for quite some time and this explains the vibration I had. It just finally gave up in the end and sheared off. I know there are plenty in the US however I was looking for something closer to home as the freight would be ridiculous.

After I posted I called George Laurie and he may be able to help me.

Yes I know its been a while on here but I usually use the OIC Online Imperial Club as of course I have an Imperial. I will try to keep up here but sometimes life gets in the way.

I suspect Damien (I think it's Damien) Veness has a rear axle housing for a big Chrysler or Imperial at his place... that's near Lismore NSW.
