We bought this nice 1957 Custom Royal Lancer convertible a few years ago from a long time owner.
It really did not need restoration, so, of course we are restoring the car.
It is so hard to know where to stop after you start working on an old car.
So far the 325 Hemi has been rebuilt, the transmission rebuilt, brakes rebuilt, new interior made by our excellent upholsterer, new convertible top with boot.
We are installing a set of wide white wall tires after the work is finished but first the car is being stripped down to bare metal and some minor rust taken care off.
The inside floor is incredibly nice, the only inside rust was under the rear seat reinforcement cross member where field mice had ran back and forth and also used the tunnel for a bath room.
We had to make a new rear part of the trunk floor and one patch panel at the bottom rear of the right side quarter panel.
The rest of the body is in fantastic condition considering this is a 60 year old Mopar convertible.
And of course after the car is painted the bumpers will not look good enough so they were sent out for plating, all stainless is being straightened and polished and a few pieces of gold anodized aluminum was sent out to be redone.
New rubber weather stripping will be installed and the Dodge will look factory new again only probably better than ever before!
Fun car to work with and it is so rare to find an old Mopar convertible is this condition, that makes it even more fun.
If I can figure out how to post pictures I'll post a few.

The shop is HUGE, 25,000 sf and there's usually around 40 cars there at one time. Mostly old Mopar cars but also a 1959 Cadillac or two, a 1965 Lincoln, several 50's Citroen and Renault 4CV cars plus many, many more.
Right now it is really fun because we have 2 1957 DeSoto convertibles being frame off restored, this 1957 Dodge convertible, the 1957 DeSoto Wagon, the 1957 New Yorker convertible, 3 1959 Dodge 2drht, 2 1958 Dodge convertibles plus a 1958 and a 1959 Adventurer 2drht and a bunch of non Mopar cars.
It makes it fun to come to work in the morning! |
