Hi FL Folks,
Anyone got any leads on a piston supplier for 270 Poly pistons.
Any size bigger than stock.

Is it true that LA-273 pistons can be fitted instead?
Thanx from Mopower

I have a set ,almost, of 7 pistons for a 259 or 270 poly, .030 over factory pistons that need a home

What, exactly, are you trying to accomplish?
Foreign pistons could be used if the bore size is similar, if the compression distance is very similar, if the skirt is similar, and if the wrist pin is the same as or smaller than the hole in the piston. You also need to be aware of the size/location of valve notches. By the time your done screwing around you could have had the correct part without any drama.
If you are doing a proper rebuild then why not just buy a set of new pistons? If you want more compression then we have forgings available for just about any engine. If you are doing a 'quickie', weekend rebuild, then throw some fresh rings in it and cross your fingers.

For cast I'd check with Egge, for forged, as "Wayfarer" said, check with him.

Hi Fl Folks,
Just a throw together 270 poly, for my 64 D200 truck, bores are too slack for a re-ring. (Was going 426 Wedge WSS) Gas is $9 a gallon here!!!
Was thinking the LA-273 piston sits higher in the bore and under-domes are similar looking so valve notches are not a problem.
The low compression Fifties engines need a boost in comp methinks?
Just a small issue with the pin size but a ream-out to have a press-fit pin is the logical solution.
Why bother you ask?
Parts are here already and I have access to a specialist V8 machine shop.

I have built a 402ci Poly with parts/help from Gary Pavlovich soon to be run at the dragstrip! (65 Fury)
Got several Hemi builds on the go as well and funds are tight.

Thats why the rare but beautiful 270 is getting rebuilt in preferance to my 318 Poly.

Hi Randy and All,

Great replies already
Those 7 pistons you have sound right up my street please.
What's the chances of finding an eighth one do you think?

As a regular Bigblock Mopar engine builder I find the Poly/early hemi prices fairly expensive.
(I'm more used to the cheapness of LA/RB parts.)
We have been spoilt with availability and bargain basement prices of mainstream LATER engine parts!

But when it comes to beauty the 270 is coolio!!!

Then there's the early hemi as a close second.

Yes, modern is cheaper. 270P can be converted to hemi. The 270 bore is 3.62, 318 3.90. That is .282, not going to work. 273 is 3.63 depending on the other variables that might work, but don't know how pricy 273 pistons are.

I'm pretty sure that you will be disappointed in the performance of a 270 in a D200 truck.......
Any bone stock B engine will double the usable torque of the little guy.

A "B" will hammer his pocket book, maybe a 318 or 360.

Really? There are thousands (tens-of-thousands???) of 383-400 still out there.

Plenty I'm sure, guess it depends. One of my better MPG cars was a '69 Charger with 383/727/3.23 that got 17 on the road.

...aaahhhh... I was focused on initial sourcing and parts, not cost of driving.

Hi FL Folks,

273 LA piston is the same bore size as the 270 3.625.
Sits higher in the bore and will up the comp to around 9 to 1.
The prob. with the D200 is it has a funky bellhousing that has the chassis mounts on it and no truck 4-speed mounting.
Then there's the issue of the bell-bolt pattern S/B not B/B.
383' are getting rarer now in the UK, and 400's are nearly extinct!

If I can find a funky B/B bellhousing for 64 D200 then I will go 383/400 as suggested.

Still think the 270 Poly is the best looking motor around so I will carry o regardless!!!

Many thanx everyone, from Jon.

Just missed a 57 Belvedere on EbayUK, OOPS. £7200 cheap.
