Location: SE Iowa | Thank you all for the kind words. I really wish my father could have seen it done. He had a good start on it, but that was as far as he could go with it. Dad bought that car and a 4 door sedan at a farm aucrion in 1984 for 5 dollars each. There were other cars there that brought from 5 dollars to 30 dollars each. If only we could experience ''those days'' again. I have no idea what I am going to do about the quarter window gaskets. Mine are in about 400 pieces. but I will figure something out. Thanks again for the nice comments |

John, I believe this is the original part number for the rear 1/4 glass weatherstrip. (2189 296). same left & right. The discription in the parts book was a little vague but it shows it for 2 & 4 door surburbans. May help your search. Will. |

I was looking into doing that, but have no way of attaching the stainless trim. The trim is designed to slide into and hook into the gaskets.

When I worked for a VW/Subaru dealer. The subaru's had trim of the same type setup (even tho lots of cars have similar setup) The glass guy use to take the trim and hold in place with little pieces of the weaterstrip. providing trim was not overly distorted. glue window in then the trim. It came out well but was time consumimng. It was something that had to be done when the part wasnt avail able
Word of caution if you go this route. your trim is set for good you will not be able to reuse it after all is done. Mask area real well because it can become a meesy job |

| Very nice!!! Makes me want to finish my Dad's even more now. Dad's was also a /6 with a three speed. It now has a 318 Magnum with a 727. I am going to add an overdrive later on. Just want to get it back on the road. I am waiting on my gas tank. They are having to put a new bottom in it. I sure wish we could get a new one. Finding good headlight rings is also a real pain. I need one more nice one. Can't wait for more pictures. |

Location: SE Iowa | Making progress on it slowly. I was trying to adjust the tail gate and got pissed enough I considered adjusting it with a sledge hammer, so i quit for the day. Had all of the chrome redone for it and it came back perfect except for the rear bumper ends. They look great ,but don't fit very well at all. If I have to, I guess I can cut a narrow notch in them and bend them in closer to the body ,then weld and rechrome them. They seem like they are spread out. Oh well I will figure something out. Does anyone know, is there a filler piece under the tail gate to fill in the gap between the gate and bumper? if not I am going to make one anyway. |
