Subject: hammermg in freeze plug procedure

I have a freeze plug  that I have to replace  in my 241 hemi .

what would you guys recommend  for a sealant around the disc ?  seen some guys you a black tarry permatex  sealer./gasket sealer

it's a dished  freeze plug

I have used a product for well over 35 years now called " Stag " jointing paste which is used for sealing up steam piping joins on boilers etc with good results always.

I'm in Australia so not sure if STAG is available overseas in the US or not but here it is here on evilbay.

i've never used anything on a saucer type freeze plug . i've been messin with motors for over 50 yrs. and never had one saucer type plug leak . when one installs sauce type plugs
peen em in like ya own em but not like ya want to destroy em and they won't leak or come out ---------------------------------------------later

Permatex will work. Apply it to the edges of the hole before you drive the plug in.

<p style="text-align: center;">I punched a larger hole in the old freeze plug  to let it drain out , got the old one ot  then  stuck the garden hose in there to flush it out ,,,,,and another one pounded in . I used ultra black permatex on the install and a little on the outside. good to go. Thanks guys ! john</p>
