Regular Posts: 99 | After ~7 years of neglect, I got the 300B out of the shed and washed it to use in a upcomming wedding. I had forgotten just how great these 300's are. If you ever get the chance to purchase one, don't pass it up. I wonder how many of these 300B's remain. Would anyone here know or have a guess? Regular Posts: 99 | Thanks for comments guys. I've been reading this forum alot over the past few days and have come to realize that my postings are lacking in content. I just assumed that the information on the '56 would bore you guys but I really enjoy reading about the cars here so I'll share a little. Sorry for my ignorance/laziness. My first memory of this car is from 1977. One summer day my dad loaded me into his work car (1948 Ply business coupe w/392 Hemi power) and off we went to visit a friend of his. In '77 I was 19 yrs old and had no appreciation of what I was about to see. The gentlemans name was Eugene George (R.I.P.~2004) and this fellow was one of a kind. Mr. George was a engineer @ Chrysler Corp. here in Huntsville. My dad was the skilled trades supervisor for over 30 years in the same plant so he and Mr. George became friends. In addition to his day job, Mr. George was professional photographer, a instructor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and a collector of cameras, telescopes, grandfather clocks and yes, automobiles. His collection at that time numbered ~40 and consisted of Mercedes, Jaguars, Packard's and Chryslers / Imperials. As I understand, the '56 was purchased new by an officer in the United States Army. He somehow got stationed in Germany and had the car shipped there. I would assume that the "B" got considerable time on the Autobahn. The car returned home with him and was purchased by Mr. George sometime in early '70's. Mr. George kept the car in storage until my dad bought it in the mid '80's. My dad had the seats recovered in leather and installed carpet among other work. I did the body and paint work. There are a couple of items on the '56 that are not correct so I'm doing some research and will get them corrected asap. I just got off the phone with Vance, Mr. George's son and he told me of a car the he and his brother have recently puchased. It is a 1947 Keller. This car is one of three that remain and is in survivor condition. His plans are to Not restore the car and preserve it as is. Wow, what a find! This car was manufactured in Huntsville in a facility that was located in what is now Redstone Arsenal. (see link) I've got to scram now but will check later today if anyone has any questions or information. http://blog.al.com/breaking/2013/05/5_things_to_know_about_keller.h... If circumstances were to dictate that it be sold, I'll remember you. Doug

Regular Posts: 99 | Neil, I guess I went brain dead for a while. I used to be a member of the 'Chrysler 300 Club'. I probably should touch base with them again. I wonder how many here own 300's. Just in case some were wondering about the air breather, the original Bat Wing was stolen before we bought the car. I priced a few several years ago and I'll just say they aint cheap. Rather than spend the money to buy a replacement, I decided to make one. I know this will fool nobody, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I think it's a reasonable facsimile. Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Doug; have a custom decal made for that air cleaner, saying "Kiekaefer Marine" That'll start some stories... I'd like to have a C300, just because it is so nasty and un-civilized. Edited by d500neil 2014-04-21 12:58 AM

Expert Posts: 2308 Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | Nice lookihng 1956 300B! I find it a little difficult to believe that you would let such a nice car languish in an old barn for 7 years witholut getting it out for a drive once in awhile! :madman:Clever recreation of a "batwing" air filter housing too. I haven't priced one lately but I imagine whoever has one of the original ones is asking all the market will bear as they are not common any more. It looks like your 300B has been fitted with air conditioning which one would expect for a car being used in the humid South. Aftermarket I'm assuming judging by the style of compressor you're using. How's that working out for you?

Expert Posts: 2788 Location: USA - KY | Beautiful car, notweak2! Lovely colour. Presents very well! I'm installing a modern AC system into my car as well - it's quite the puzzle to figure out, but worth while IMHO if you live in an area that has very hot summers. Like 58 DESOTOS RULE, I'd like to know how the installation went for you, and how you like your AC?

Regular Posts: 99 | Rosy & Stephen, The A/C unit is a Vintage Air model and it works well. The installation was fairly easy and not at all complicated. With that having been said, I plan to remove the unit and install it in my '57 Saratoga street rod. It is an underdash unit and it has bothered me looks wise from the get go. I don't drive the '56 as much as I thought I would and the '57 will be driven way more often. Thanks for the kind words. Doug BTW, Looks like I'll be rebuilding the front brake cylinders this weekend. If they are to pitted, NAPA has 3 of the four @ $38 each.

Regular Posts: 99 | FWIW, I am told that there were 1103 B's built. I also learned that a significant number of these cars were never tagged and went straight to the race track.

And, who else could afford to buy and race 300's? No-buddy. 40 Years of Stock Car Racing only (IIRC) shows K's cars as being the 300's that were NASCAR raced.

Regular Posts: 99 | Neil, You're probably right. I did, however, watch this vid of a 300B. Later in years for sure and this car is in some sort of vintage competition. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=300B+infenion+raceway
