Welcome aboard, Per!

The paint/trim plate's other big-numbers on it will confirm various OEM options on your car.

Have you looked for its Broadcast Sheet, up/behind its glove box?

Anyway, what you have presented, above, translates to a LATE built car (good for quality control, but, most-all of the 59's were well
built, from the 1957 design-originations of them), on or around July 7, 1959

It is the V/8 Coronet 2-door hardtop, which had the 326 c.i. 2-bbl carb engine in it, with one-exhaust...as standard equipment.

It is/was painted in Ruby on the Lower-and-fins, with Pearl on its roof and middle ("Saddle"-) areas.

Its interior motif is "Blue" ????

You might check the TRM code, again.

There were 19,283 1959 Coronet V/8 HT's built.

Thank's for your reply.
You are right, the trim code is 138. The engine is, according to the previous owner, a 361 and the gear box is an automatic three speed. So it's not an orginal engine as I hoped for. But I can live with that. Thank's once agin.

If the distributor is in the front, it's probably a 361. If it's in the rear, most likely a 326.

Also, the Poly 326 (bored out 318) has rounded-off edges on its valve covers; the 361 has tall, square-edged valve covers.

The 138 interior is "Neutral' color.

What other big numbers are on its P/T plate, and please post some pics of your ride over on our Members Rides message board!

Welcome to the forum from another 59 Dodge owner.

The '59 Dodges came with 326 " A " Poly, 361 and 383 engines along with the 230 cubic inch " Getaway Six " .

If yours still has it's original 326 in it, the 326 " A " poly , the engine number will be stamped on the drivers side front cylinder of the engine block, mine was stamped VERY lightly and very hard to find under a few coats of engine paint and the distributor will be at the rear of the engine.

The A Poly 326 Dodge will start with DMP8 then the engine number, the valve covers will also have the " sawtooth " looking design on them along the lower edge of the cover .

I found my engine numbers on my 326 after help obtained from others on this forum just after buying my Dodge.

The 326 was called the Red Ram.

The 361 also available in the ' 59 Dodge and was called the Ram Fire and Super Ram Fire and had the distributor at the front passenger side with the engine number on a machined pad near the distributor.

The 383 was the D500 and Super D 500 and I assume the engine numbers on the 383's were on the same machined/stamped pad near the front passemger mount distributor as on the 361's.

Hope this is of some help.........

The only V/8 engines that were available on the 1959 Dodges were either their standard-engine, or one
of the two optional D500 versions.

The 361 c.i. engines were standard on the Custom Royal & Custom Sierra wagons, with 4-bbl carbs.

The Sierra and the 2-dr Suburban wagons got the 361, but with a 2-bbl carb.

The Coronets got the 326 (bored-out 318) with a 2-bbl carb.

There was a "Power Package" option, so that the 2-bbl engines could get a 4-bbl/dual-exhaust system on them.

There was also a stand-alone option for dual exhausts....because ALL of the non-D500's came standard with a
single exhaust pipe.

The car was imported to Sweden in the early nineties, and I think it came from Arizona. All full documentation was given to me by the previous owner.
There are no notes regarding an engine swap here in Sweden. So the car came from US with the 361.
I was told that the car was a Patrol Car (Police Car?) from the beginning.

If it was a version of a 'police' car, there should be tell-tales on it, like welded-up spot light and/or antenna and/or emergency lights
in its body or parcel shelf area.

Also, there should be evidence of mounting holes on the dash board, for radios, shot guns, or equipment, including, possibly, a "Certified"
speedometer, or a generic steering wheel, with a full-round horn ring.

Under-hood, there should be evidence of "growler" mounting plates/brackets, maybe a HD alternator or generator; an over-size battery.

And, then, there's the Paint/Trim plate-VIN on the car.

A Police("Pursuit")-built car will have a VIN with a unique third-digit: "9"...like: "M392-xxxx".

The title I applied for says I gave them the wrong engine ID #. Please give me the ENGINE VIN # location for the 326 engine. I need this ASAP. A picture of the location would be great. HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP

For the 326 V8: Locate power steering pump. Look behind the p/s pump on a flat vertical surface on the block. You will see the engine number beginning with DMP8xxxxxx. Clean old, dirty oil off surface as needed, so you can read it.

Dorsey,

I just popped the hood of my 59 Coronet.

It has it's original 326 in it.

The engine number will start with "DMP8 , then the number , and these are all in the one line ( not "DMP8 "and the number underneath for example ).

Mine is located on the drivers side of the engine ,at the front of the engine ,and is located along one line on the engine block approx 3/4 inch DOWN from the head gasket ( I just measured it ) .

I don't have a power steer pump so if yours has, then it may be necessary to remove the pump out of the way perhaps to get a good look down there.

The numbers are stamped along the same angle as the head gasket is ( approx 45 degrees angle from horizontal or so I guess ?? )

They aren't stamped on a well machined pad but are just stamped into the block itself and are stamped very lightly hence the problems people have in finding them I guess ??

I had to ask the same question to try and find my engine number when I got my Dodge and got help here in locating the general area to look.

It took me a while to find mine so persevere and you will find it.

To find mine I had to get a wire brush on a drill to get rid of all the paint and stuff even though my engine was de-gunked with degreaser .

Sorry I can't get any photos up as I've given up trying to post photos up on this forum, just won't work for me .

Hope this helps,

Terry.
