First of all, thanks to Dave for setting this forum up for us.

I would like to Start by introducing myself as the first volunteer moderator of the new New England Region FL forum. I have a 58 Desoto Firesweep and I live in Action, Massachusetts. My car lives in Lawrence, MA. I am currently doing a "rolling" restoration on my car while driving it a lot. This leads to a couple of survey questions:

1) Who else is in New England?
2) Are you interested in trying to rendevous somewhere at some car events. Very often I am the only FL car at the events that I attend. Also, I have never even seen another car just like mine (a few similar ones though).

Rebecca...

Great of you to get Dave to set up a New England region. Best of luck to you.
IIRC, Maine is part of New England.
Doesn't Stephen King have a Forwardlook car (Iknow his first car was a 56 Plymouth)?
If he does, or is an enthusist, maybe get him to join your region!

Hi Rebecca,
There's a Moper show in Vernon, Ct in August. I'm trying to get a friend with a 58 Regal Lancer to bring his car. If he does I'll be there. There's a genral makes show in Southbury, CT in Sept. It's a big show and has good Forward Look turnout. I'll try to get specific info to post. Thanks for setting this up. I tried to communicate in the New York Region and the New Jersey guys would never acknowledge me.

The Vernon show is August 26 & 27. I haven't been in a few years. They're promoting it as the biggest Chrysler show in New England. It didn't seem that big when I went last, but maybe interest has grown. It's their 21st annual show.

I would like to go to that one. www.chryslerconvention.com is the web site. It is Aug. 26 and 27.
It sounds like it is mostly a muscle car show. Has anyone in this group been to the show before?

First off; congrats on the New forum. Its cool to have a place of your own where more local people can communicate and have the chance to get together.
Second; Thats a little unfair dont you think Joe ? I dont think anyone In the NY/NJ area shunned you. Fact is, that forum doesnt see much action at ALL. Just check to see the most recent post dates. I mean lets face it, the New Jersey members kind of got a black eye from one notorious resident that we wont mention. I kind of feel guilty by association. ..Anyway, I just want to say sorry if you felt left out. Thats my responsibility over there.
Have fun in the North East folks.

I just called the guy who runs it. It sounds like sunday is the real car show day. If you go to this even you should at least go on sunday. Also, it sounds like they do get some antique mopar but not nearly as much as the muscle cars. I don't think that it is a particularly large show but since it is all mopar it will have more mopar then the other larger shows. I might go. Anyone else interested? Perhaps I can get my husband to take his Cuda there too.

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for setting up the New England forum.
Great idea! I'm in northwest Connecticut, so not
too far from the Southbury show -- have taken one
of my FL cars there for several years now, and met
some interesting people, and there are usually several
other FL vehicles as well. This is a large well organized
show, easy to get to since it's just off I-84. Date for
this year is September 17th. Hope you and others in
the area can attend and maybe we can all arrange to
meet.
Have enjoyed your posts on your DeSoto. Nice
car -- keep the updates coming!

Cheers,

C.

I don't go to many local shows but I do go to Hershey each year to sell toys. I drove my 61 Newport down a couple of years ago and am thinking of taking the 58 Desoto this year. Anyone else going? I live on Cape Cod.

Hello,

Congratulations on getting the new england forum. I saw this was created a while ago but with work and school, its taken me a while to be able to post. I'll make my official introduction. Im located in Brewster, Ma and we have a large family of forwardlooks even though our 57 Chrysler and 58 Dodge are up for sale right now. I go to school at Umass Amherst so I go to a lot of northern connecticut shows in the spring fall, specifically Marks Cruise Night in windsor lockes. My plymouth stays on cape most of the time (my 70 caprice is a little more practical for a college town) but I would be willing to bring it up for any sort of forwardlook meeting. During the summer im game for any where in the cape/boston area. Rich-I'd love to meet up at a local show with on cape. I go to Tuesday night Upper Cape Tech School frequently, if you're interested we can set something up for the spring. It would be great to see a decent showing of forward look cars somewhere in new england!

I was thinking of going to a little Mopar show in Amesbury (or near there) this weekend. I will post the details after I find the flier.
I too have a 58 Desoto. My husband has a 70 Cuda.

Rebecca,
I might be interested in that show in Amesbury depending on the weather. I'm in the Acton area right now with my Desoto.
Tom,
Is your Plymouth the one I've seen parked off 6A? It looks great. I also live in Brewster. We should get together.

Rich, that is my plymouth you see off 6A. Its weird ive never seen your car around but I would love to get together sometime with the cars. Im up at school currently but my parents are often around on the weekends and they are equally the forwardlookers if you're ever cruising by with the Desoto. We should definetly try and make it to a show in the spring. It's good to know we aren't the only forwardlookers in the area.

Rich, that is pretty funny that you have been here that many times and we never saw each other's cars. Did you know about the big cruise night that they have at Kimballs in Westford. They have it in the summer every thursday night. It is over now but I had my car there most weeks. Since my car is not at home I would need some advanced notice if you wanted to get our cars together sometime.

Tom, If it looks like anyone's around I'll stop by the house. I go by all the time. When the sun is out I am driving the old cars!

Rebecca, I'll probably take the Desoto again next week if it doesn't rain. I'm not sure which day yet though. I realize you don't keep yours in Acton but it would be nice to see another 58.

Welcome to 2008,

I'm near Albany, NY and lived most my life in MA, NH and CT - well, besides 10 years in Norway - so I consider myself a New Englander.

1. For those interested, there is always a real good FL turnout at Rhinebeck, NY autoshow first weekend in May. Hudson River Valley Antique Auto Association puts it on. Visit www.rhinebeckcarshow.com. Saturday is Rods & Customs, Sunday is stock. I've been on Sundays the last 4 years. Nice show, very classy beautiful cars. All makes and models. Goes back to the 1910's so the variety is great.

2. Also, I am the organizer of a New England Mopar car cruise where we spend the whole day cruising scenic roads, with a route that varies by year and season. We are not affiliated with any Club, we are just a group of internet Mopar enthusiasts who decided to do something other than sitting on our duffs at car shows. This year's summer New England Mopar Cruise is Saturday June 7th. We'll cruise from Newburyport, MA to Northampton/Hadley MA via Rockport/Cape Ann, Concord, MA and the Quabbin Reservoir.

We start driving in the morning and stop every hour to stretch legs, socialize, photo ops, lunch, sightsee, gawk at eachother's cars, etc. We sometimes have dinner together at the end depending on time and energy. We'd love to have as many FL's along as we can. Respond here or PM me if you are interested and I'll keep you posted on details.

3. Our Fall Cruise will start in Essex, CT and end in/near Bennington, VT (Hemmings). Date TBD, probably the Saturday after Labor Day. Same structure as above, we pick scenic routes and make regular stops along the way to make it as relaxed and friendly as possible.

Cheers, - Art

Number 1 and 3 are a little far for me but I'm definetly interested in the newburyport cruise. My obligations are not real set in stone so its hard for me commit so early but I would definetly be interested in trying to make it. Keep us informed of any changes. Thanks!

Hi Tom,
Glad you're interested in the June Cruise. It would be very cool to have you and any friends/family of yours along.
In mid-May I'll post additional details about the route and where we'll make our stops, but the basic info is per my post above.

The weather is warming up, summer's on the way!
Cheers,

Tom, Rebecca,
I hope you can make the Cruise June 7th, we'd love to have you along.

I'll post detailed locations and directions here in about a week, but the basics won't change:
We meet June 7th in Newburyport, MA at 8:00am and start cruising at 9am. The route takes us out to Cape Ann/Rockport, then west to Bedford for lunch. We continue out Carlisle, up to Winchendon, down around the Quabbin and end at the top of Mt.Holyoke around 6:00pm. It's a long day, but we stop and relax often.

FYI - It's not an ol' boys club. I started this on Moparts.com only 4 years ago, we get about 15 Mopars so the more the merrier. Along with the regular 60's muscle cars, we had a /6 1962 Valiant last year (single flowmaster exhaust!), there is also a die-hard C-body crew which usually attends.

Thank you for your interest!
- Art

You'd be amazed at the amount of forward-looks hiding out around New England, Theres a good amount out there, I just think its not accurately represented in our region for whatever reason. Maybe most NE forwardlookers are resistant to technology. I'd suggest self storage places as far as car storage in your area goes Steve, They have 24 hour security and If you go a little outside the city they usually have a pretty good amount of room. As for car shows near Boston, There are plenty if you're willing to travel a bit. As far as in the city, I know for a while Cruisin' New England was doing their World of Wheels show in front of city Hall right around this time of year.
