Elite Veteran Posts: 1049 Location: PL / EU | 1960 DeSoto Adventurer - $17500 (sebastopol) Date: 2011-08-07, 9:50AM PDT Reply to: sale-ffrhb-2512254589@craigslist.org On March 10th, 1960, my grandfather ordered this DeSoto from Jim Olson Motors in Klamath Falls, Oregon, per the bill of sale I still have. Several options include power windowlifts, Solex glass, Duel antenna, Rear defogger, 6 way power swivel seats, Solex glass. He kept it garaged, and it even had a radio phone for a while until a line was put in at his ranch. After he died, it was kept long term in a garage as well. I have had it for 4 years now, and have enjoyed it, but no longer have the room for it. I am hoping it will go to someone who will love it as much as I do. The good news: powerful 383 engine that starts easily every time, recent brake work, super clean upholstery, nice chrome and paint. The bad news: there is a dent in the driver side door (grandpa's last time driving), the windshield does have a crack, a few very minor rust spots, radio & clock don't work any more. I still have all the registrations, owners manuel, original Oregon plates too. I am asking 17,500 for it, and will be willing to talk about serious offers. Location: Parts Unknown | Call it growing up or growing old, but I'm starting to pay more attention to the details on the four doors. This car has the sky-high backglass. Did all DeSoto 4 doors get this ? It seems unusual to my eye, but maybe I am confusing it with other cars ? Ian ? | ||

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | 4-doors are extremely 'user' friendly; 2-doors are a PITA to have back seat passengers 'in'. In the age of 4-dr Chargers, the 4-dr cars have gotten more popular, at least because good condition 2-dr models are mostly tapped-out. | ||

It seems unusual to my eye, but maybe I am confusing it with other cars ? What I find interesting about the sky-high rear glass is how DeSoto chose to relate it to thier model line. All (U.S.) Adventurers got it. That's both 4dr sedan and 4dr hardtop. All Fireflites got the low-rise rear window (both sedan and 4dr hardtop). Chrysler (vs DeSoto) assumed the high-style 4dr hardtop buyer would prefer the high-style high-rise window and the low-style sedan buyer would prefer the low-style low-window....which makes more sense. As good as the sky-high rear window looks (I own a sedan Adventurer), I could see it turning off buyers because the rear seat occupants will get scalp/neck/shoulder sunburns under that window and it would increase interior temperatures when parked. Expert 5K+ Posts: 7207 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | All Canadian 1960 DeSotos were Adventurers, no Fireflites were built. The sedans all came with low back rear windows, and the 4 door hardtops came with high back rear windows. The Canadian Adventurers also came with the same interior as a 1960 Saratoga. Another thing about the sky high rear windows, in Canada all 1960 through 1962 Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler four door hardtops came with sky high rear windows, while all 4 door sedans came with the low rear windows, no matter what make and model, however it was rare to see a Canadian four door sedan with the stainless steel overlays on the window surrounds and pillars, like you see on these two cars. Expert Posts: 3588 Location: Plymouth Spaceport | Im starting to appreciate four doors a lot more too.I think they made a good choice lowering the roofline on the sedans to the same level as the hardtops in 1960,it makes them look a million times better in my opinion. | ||

Location: Parts Unknown | Yeah, I find the sky high backglass on the 4 doors to look out of sync with the overall flow of the car. Not terrible, but not something I'd consider a "plus". At least on the otherwise slippery looking 60 DeSoto and Chrysler. I have read Ian and a few others kick around the "science" behind which cars got which roof and never really logged it in (brain already overloaded with useless details) to the hard drive), but I do find it more and more interesting. | ||

Expert Posts: 3588 Location: Plymouth Spaceport | Hi "DoctorDeSoto", I havent been here in a while and just noticed at the bottom of your reply you list your forward look collection and it says 1958 Plaza.did you finally locate a stripper model 4dr in seafoam green? I have always wanted a 1958 Belvedere 4 door sedan in that color or turquoise,the 58's are the most beautiful Plymouths. I think the reason they made the roofline so high on the 1957-1959 non-hardtop models was because of headroom,the funny thing is the 1956 cars had the same roof height whether they were a hardtop or sedan.
