I can understand his interest in trading for newer gas efficient cars, my '58 gets 6mpg city / 9mpg highway

Yikes! That seems pretty low, Don. I have to figure out the mileage on my De Soto (granted, it is a 361), but I think it gets in the 12 range. Still, I usually fill it with pure 91 (no ethanol) which is about $4.50 per gallon!

these 4barrel 392's are thirsty. I could probably get a mile or maybe two to the gallon better with optimal tuning but it's easier to just map out gas stations on long trips.

your pure 91 is about 25-30% higher than the 'regular' unleaded here. I would have to get in the 12's just to break even on that higher priced fuel.

I've been having some fuel delivery problems lately, so I decided to try that pure 91 stuff. You can always find scary stuff on the internet about how corn will destroy your engine and ruin your whole life! I always write down mileage and gallons at every fill-up. Next time I see the De Soto, I will do the math and figure out if the pure 91 made any difference. I am still having some fuel delivery problem, so it didn't help there. It makes a nice dent in the wallet, though!

The fuel gauge in my Imperial isn't accurate so I have to drive by miles. Sometimes it's depressing filling the tank, other times I just have to laugh.

I don't need to search the internet for scary stuff about corn. For as long as I can remember, gas here has always had an ethanol mix. The past 5 years or so it has gotten much worse. I have a horrible fuel issue with my New Yorker that I've been trying to figure out for a while. Rubber hoses, aftermarket filter, 2 fuel pumps and 3 carbs have been replaced due to leaking or ate up components. It still acts like the old ping pong ball in the tank trick.

I think the idea was to put a ping pong ball in the gas tank and the victim's car would conk-out randomly. I think it is urban myth though, it could never work on a modern car due to the restrictions in the filler tube. Even our forward looks have bottom-fed filters that seem like they would prevent this type of mischief. Maybe it worked on some ole' Tin Lizzy way back when?

How is the Coronet coming, Robert? I had some home that we might see it at the Colorado MoPar show last Saturday...
