I am working on a 413 RB engine. It's in a 65 Imperial, but I am hoping to get some help since they used this engine a few years in FL era. I am working on this car for another person. Almost everything under the hood has never been replaced, until now. Upon replacing the t-stat, I noticed there is a relief in the t-stat housing but not in the front cover. I replaced it and now have a leak there. I used a film of GM Gasket Maker with the gasket and put a dab of GM Sealer on the stat itself so it would stick to the housing and it would be properly positioned. But I am sure the t-stat has moved and is not positioned properly. I know I will have to pull this apart again, but any tips on getting this to be properly installed. And this car has factory air, so I have the compressor in the way too. Why didn't they put the relief in the front cover. That would have been too easy I guess. Thanks for any help.

I've found that if you "Glue" the T-Stat in the housing itself with the sealer and gasket, then install, it helps.....Sounds like your right, and the T-Stat has indeed moved sideways..Be carefull with that T-Stat, as it may be bent from tightening down uncentered....Good luck....Hope this helps you...NAPA has gaskets that have a sticky side that does help...

PS: Make sure you check the "Straightness" of the housing as I've seen them tightened down like this and warped...(Pulled up in the center)...

T-stat first then gaskett

Glue the t-stat into the housing then put on the gasket, then install? I'll try that. Hopefully it will cure fine and not move going back together.
