Location: Under the X in Texas | This cartoon brings up a possible interesting bit of trivia. Does anyone know if it is true that when the '56 Texan models were first offered, the crossed flag emblem used Texas flags? Perhaps they did but the ones I recall all had crossed checker flags. The cartoon shows what I would call a '57-58 composite model with '57 AND '58 park lamps both next to the single headlight and in the '58 grille bar. Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | I'm pretty sure that crossed Texas-flags were initially designed for the 1956 Texans. I've got a '56 Texan brochure @ home; if no one beats me to it, I'll send a pic(s) of it to Clive, & he can post it/them, here.

Location: Parts Unknown | The crossed checkered flags were D-500 emblems and had "500" where the two poles crossed. If the 56 Texan had something like this, I have never seen it. The Texan tags I have are an outline of the state with the stylized name "Texan" superimposed over it. These come in two sizes, a large one for the quarters and a smaller one for the deck lid and dash. I never saw one with an emblem on the hood or elsewhere.

When they are posted, please note that the 1956 Texan potmetal emblems are different from the 1957-guys, as the '56ers have the left side of the "T" appear above the upper-left corner of the state, whereas, in 1957 the "T" was completely incorporated within the state outline. In 1958, the entire word "Texan" was placed within the outline if the state. Edited by d500neil 2008-03-04 3:16 PM

I was just going to post something about this car being painted in one of the "official" Texan color schemes but decided to re-read my brochure, & guess what? The "official" Texan colors were "Sapphire White over Oriental Coral " or: " Jade Green over Sapphire White" . Of course: never-say-never , but, at least, this Texan doesn't bear the 'official' Texan colors. That car, also, appears to be a D500 model. I wonder what its IBM card-copy states, for it? Expert Posts: 1918 Location: Hell's Outhouse - a.k.a. Buckeye, Arizona | No need, Brad - my vision is perfect and that is indeed a 1956 Dodge Texan Lancer D-500 2 door hardtop. Wonder what the owner means by scrawling "HISTORICALLY DOCUMENTED" on the windshield? Looks to have spots and factory trunk A/C as well - note what appears t be the "snorkel" on the passenger rear 1/4.....

Location: Parts Unknown | The placement of the Texan tag on the hood looks "right" .... balanced against the "Dodge" emblem on the left side. I never understood why the D-500 tag was stacked on top of the Dodge emblem. Go figger ! I have seen 56 - 57 - 58 Texans. Without exception, ALL have been black and white. Until this thread came along, I would have thought those were the only colors available. Is there any mention of cowhide inserts where fabric usually went ? I saw a 56 like that once and heard from another guy that he had seen another like it.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Waitasecond, Brent; I've seen quite a few (relatively speaking!) 57 & 58 Texans, and none of them were painted black and white, although there were no unique-specific color applications for those years' Texans. The 1956 D500, when introduced, was supposed to have specific colors (Coral & White, IIRC) , but that soon went by the 'boards'... Again: the factory's IBM Build Card copy will confirm how and when this car was built.
