I took my daughter, son-in-law, and grandson up to Tiny Town today. My grandson loves cars.

After Tiny Town we went the Davies Chuck Wagon before heading home.

The Blue Heron ran like a champ (almost). On the way home down Kipling and Platte Canyon I kept hitting red lights, and started to notice a little brake fade. When I got home my front left brake was smoking, and as of writing this I still have not been able to turn the drum.

Next week I will be going to Berkeley. There is a 90+% chance I will be bringing home the Mercedes 300SEL 6.3. The Chrysler needs to be movable so we can fit it and the 6.3 into the garage.

After the brake cooled down I tried to turn the RF wheel - no luck. I backed off the shoes - no luck. I had to turn very hard and suddenly the brake release.

I took it apart and everything looked good. I sanded the glaze off the shoes and put it back together. I went to adjust the shoes, but after each adjustment I would test the brake and the brake would stick on. No wonder it over heated!!

Searching this site I found advice; clean everything and file the lead edge of the brake shoes at an angle. I put it together again and it worked. Even repeated braking didn't heat up the brakes.

I'm lucky. 1.) there was no real damage and 2.) the brakes did not fail.

It is always nice to hear about a successful home repair! That looks like a very neat trip, Stanford. Thanks for posting pictures. Drive carefully on the way home with the 6.5 - I can't wait to see it! We may have to induct it as an "honorary" Forward Look car.

The 6.3 is a good looking car, but it is about as forward look as stacked loafs of bread. This is about what mine would look like if in perfect condition.

Looks like a fun trip Stanford! Dealing with the standard brakes on this era of car is always fun! Best of luck on getting the Mercedes back home.
