That's exactly what I used to have: '57 Lincoln Premiere 2 door hardtop - except I bought mine rust free and roadworthy for $1,100 in 1990. My original interior had white door panels with black inserts and flawless black painted sills - only minor rubbing on the driver's armrest, otherwise, the panels were mint and Armor All'ed quite nicely. Back seat leather had seen better days (extremely sunbeaten), but the rest of the interior was clean, solid and neat as a pin. Oh yeah, mine actually had the radio & glove box lid as well. And, I see that the battery cover is missing from the passenger floorboard as well. Good luck finding that and the missing engine parts without having to search for another original engine - of which they made exactly 3 years, 1956-1958, and only 2 years in the Lincoln, 1956-1957..... At least the seller has the scruples to list it at $500 with no reserve - now it's up to the bidders to jack her into the stratosphere. Edited by 1959Fury 2008-01-11 6:26 PM

The 368 engine wouldn't be impossible to find, as it was the optional Mercury Turnpike Cruiser engine in '57. If anyone here buys this car, I have complete engines available for it.

I'd thought that the Mercs only had the 368's in '58 - either way, a TOUGH engine to find parts for. Hell, a tough CAR to find parts for. John, if someone here ends up snagging this car, could you do 'em a favor and snag some turnable brake drums for it just so they can have 'em on hand? They're not making anything like 'em and they're so tough to find, I had to pay $95 PER USED DRUM in 1991 dollars. Edited by 1959Fury 2008-01-11 8:14 PM

For '58, the MEL series engine, 383 and 430 was introduced. A totally different engine configuration. ---John

Expert Posts: 1918 Location: Hell's Outhouse - a.k.a. Buckeye, Arizona | Yeah, that's what I meant - that I'd thought the 368's were available to Mercury only in '58, not the 368 being "the only" Mercury engine in '58. Sorry about the mix-up. Had no idea that the Turnpike Curiser had 'em in '57 as well. That said, I doubt I'd own another one. Parts are just way to scarce. My 368 cost over $2,700 for a rebuild in 1993 - thank God the auto tranny (Fordomatic?) was rock solid. Speaking of which, kind of an unusual set-up on it - 2 drive gears and a granny gear for "L".

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7807 Location: Williams California | Mark, I typed in a wrong digit. The '57 Mercury was the only one to receive the 368 Lincoln engine as an option. Sorry for the wrong info on that. ---John

Expert Posts: 2932 Location: Lemoore CA | I like 57 Lincolns too, in fact most late 50's Ford products mimicked forward look styling a lot more than GM who jumped on the band wagon late in 59.
