Went over my car (1960 Plymouth Fury - V8 - 318 cu in - torqueflite) after getting it back after servicing to find an unconnected wire.

The wiring running along the passenger side top of the intake manifold to the generator had become worn and needed to be
rewrapped.

I am assuming that while this was being done this connection must have been broken

Looks like the other end goes under the coil and towards the distributor.

Can I assume (and you know what that can mean) that the visible end is supposed to slide into a connection on the nut-like part
coming out of the intake manifold?

If so, what is/are the part number(s) for the nut-like part along with any gaskets/washers that are needed?

How easy / difficult is it to remove the nut-like part (type of tools).

Most importantly what purpose does this wire serve?

It looks like it came off of your oil pressure sensor that is sitting at the back end of your engine block. You can just slide the connector back onto it.

Either tat or the temp sensor on the water pump housing would be my guess.

Not sure whether 1960 Plymouths had an oil pressure gauge or just an idiot light. The 1960 Mopar parts catalogue says PN 1972 241 = "SENDING UNIT, Oil Pressure"

Like this (obviously different electrical connector style but those are easy to change):

Okay. Did some more digging. It was a low pressure switch, i.e. idiot light sender, PN 1818 830. That stray wire will just slide back onto the top of the sender (unless the sender is broken):

Everyone,

Thanks for your help!

Fortunately the sender matched the 1818830 PN shown above and top was not broken off and the wire slipped right back on.

Yes, it is an idiot light (right side top of dashboard pod for 'OIL', left side top of pod for 'AMP').

Took it for a quick spin when it was delivered back home and wondered why the 'OIL' light did not come on briefly when car first started but they were in a hurry to
leave and I was in a hurry to get it back in the garage.
