Hi everybody... I have some question(s) about 1960 Chrysler New yorker 2 door hardtop rear 1/4 panels??? Does anyone know if they're still available somewhere??? If they're no longer being produced, can you adapt a 1/4 from another Chryco car of the same year(s) (1960-61), without losing the original wheel lip dimension, due to the New Yorker's lower stainless accent trim?? If not, has anyone had any success making them by hand. i.e. via Fabrication shop, or at home the old fashion way.... Any advice would be appreciated....

From what I have observed, the Dodge, Ply, and Desoto are all different. There are subtle changes, but enough to loose your look. If you feel ambitious, www.eastwood.com has some shapeing tools where you can make your own stuff. I have a 59 and am forced to do that. That's what I get for buying a rust bucket I guess. The task will not be easy

Not sure what Stevie-Pooh was talking about, but the 1/4 panel sheetmetal and wheel lip should be the same for Chrysler and DeSoto for 60, with minor mods for 61.

More and more of this metal is getting repopped, but not being into 60-61 myself, I am not really up on that one specifically.

The easiest way to go is always to find nice panels. As such an eventuality diminishes, the more difficult options appear less and less distasteful. To build the wheel wells and lower quarters for my car, I used as many parts of solid original metal as I could find, focusing on NOT having to MAKE compound curves, and filling in the non-curved areas with flat stock. Tedious and expensive, I have a floor pan out of a 59 4HT as a base, with flawlessly replicated convertible supports welded in, the wheel wells were out of who-knows-what from my old yard (some FL car that was getting cut up) and the lower quarter skin and wheel well lip are a combined effort of a dozen cars and a sheet or two of flat stock. If you are handy with a MIG, and have a plasma cutter, building this stuff is a whole lot easier than the alternative. Kinda like building a full scale model! Makes a great winter project to hole up in the shop and cut and paste it all into a car again. Good luck!

Oh, I've been here and there.. I been checking in on you guys from time to time, but the family takes up a lot of the time I don't have... Also, I just graduated from my law degree at Lake Superior State University (Michigan). So the last stretch of that program was aweful nerve racking... How have you guys been???? Hope everyone is doing fine, and all is going well??? Yeh, I contacted the gentlemen that runs MY55ROCKS@AOL>COM. He told me that they make just the floor pans and trunk pans.. His prices are real resonable, and I plan on purchasing those parts from him when I start the rebuild on my car... I was hoping that someone here might have an inside scoop on some aftermaket company that is still stamping those 1/4 panels out... I know, I know, I was dreaming... That would be way too easy.. Us forward lookers smirk and shake our fists in the face of easy........ HUH LOL

Holy Cow! Billy? Is that really you????

Haven't heard from you since the old forum, and as you can tell, I have been quite a blabber mouth on the new one. (Must be the lawyer in me. hehehehehehe)

Congrats on the new degree. Since I have been working on a little project for the Tin Man, I found a 62 Chrysler Ambulance. Interested? (Just Kidding. One of my best friends is a lawyer. It got away from me)

I too am interested in the re-production panels. I have to write to 55rocks for my 59 and see what he has. Oh, you'll find some pictures around here somewhere under 59 progress. I wonder if I can sue Chrysler for shipping rusty cars? LOL That would be the Momma of class actions wouldn't it?

Anyway, glad to hear all is well and we are so happy to hear from you again.

Chuck
Black Car hasn't got ding for my car except 1 3/4 left front, which I don't want. too big
